Going to be attending another tournament possibly. Will likely see lot of monsters that will hurl things, and a variety of stuff.

Here are my possible Gondor lists

Gondor Horde models: 52

Warband 2 12/12

1 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Banner;
5 Citadel Guard with Spear;
6 Guard of the Fountain Court
----
Warband 3 12/12

1 Knight of Dol Amroth with Banner;
11 Knight of Dol Amroth

6 Guard of the Fountain Court
1 Battlecry Trebuchet

6 Citadel Guard with Longbow;
1 Avenger Bolt Thrower with Swift reload;

----

Gondor Cavalry models: 25
Warband 1 12/12
Faramir, Captain of Gondor with Horse; Heavy armour;

10 Knight of Minas Tirith
1 Knight of Minas Tirith with Banner;
----
Warband 2 11/12

11 Knight of Dol Amroth with armoured horse; Lance;
----

Gondor Tank models: 20

I have plenty more Gondor models and heroes, not to mention allies, but this is what I came up with. Any thoughts? Am I inviting disaster?

I'd drop the tank list. Aragorn and Boromir are big, tough heroes, but 18 gondorians at 650 points is bad. It means that you'll broken very soon: a good round of bow shooting may end your game really quickly.

I would also drop the shooting list.

Of all I prefer the 1st list

Yeah I wasn't a fan of my small hero tank list, only made it because uber Aragorn and uber Boromir in the same force looks cool but not practical.

The Siege Shooting is risky. Sure a Trebuchet has a slim chance of knocking out a monster, but tables are likely 48" x 48", and depending where the enemy deploys they can enter that 18" threshold fairly quickly to prevent trebuchet fire. Not only that but warmachines will cause my army to be stagnate in scenario games.

I do like the horde, but I can also see the Brutal Power Attacks coming. I very much like the cavalry force, I just don't know how effective an all cav force can be. But I should be able to get flanks and first charge easily enough. I forgot to add the lances onto the KoMT(EDIT: lances included). I would add shields but metal.

All out cav its easy to assemble and collect but hard to master... you got certaintly advantages with it, but also very bad sidebacks for it... and at thats as experience teached me, having charged something at 1st turn aint nice thing to do at times... normally ends up something like the MT knights charge into osgiliath in the movie and their end fate...

just giving you a terrifying example:
a monster wins combat vs a knight... grab the knight and toss him around and knock out all the knights nearby its range.... that is freaking terrifying!!! a simple brutal power attack dealt even more dmg to you than actually vs just infantry as it not only kills models, but also pin down your knights/dismount them and rent your force cut in half quickly....

Alright, let's say I was able to effectively dazzle and dance around the enemy as an all cav army should, concentrate all charge to one portion of the enemy force, if my opponent is smart he would keep his units tight and not spread.

Say the worst monsters I face is the Troll Chieftain, Fellbeast, and Eagle. Trolls, no problem when charging with my lanced Imrahil plus back up if I can get my troops into position. The troll would be at a disadvantage, and I use all my might on it, especially Chieftain. Flying monsters scare me, as they can get the drop on first then they do what you've said. Defensible terrain is another problem if the enemy infantry bunkers down.

I think I'll rework making a jack of all trades list. Magic, shooting, cavalry, infantry block. Will get back to you.

Well if you switched out Faramir for a cheaper hero, mounted if possible, and removed the shields on the knights you could definately fit in a bunch of fountain court guards. The main reason I didn't inclide any was because I was trying to fill out the last 3 warbands. I'm a bit OCD with that sort of thing, like having the last warband with only 11 guys in. Thinking about I should really stop doing that.

As for the rangers, you could probably pick some spears up quite cheap and stick them on the back of normal rangers if you have them. If not then maybe just some WoMT or citadel guard with spears if you aren't too worried about not maxing you bow limit.

I am not a huge fan of the knights. I think a couple can be good and maybe 6 isnt too many but I would put 2 of them in each of your warbands behind the lines to charge out once the lines clash and hopefully not get shot off their horses. They're really expensive for fight 3 and feel a bit fragile despite the armor and shields. I know you Gandalf in there soaking up a lot of point but I feel like your numbers are pretty low consider the troop choices for Gondor are mostly going to be worse one on one then other army lists.

Gondor Jack models: 28
Warband 1
Gandalf the Grey
----
Warband 2 12/12
Captain of Dol Amroth with armoured horse; Lance;
3 Knight of Dol Amroth with armoured horse; Lance;
3 Knight of Dol Amroth
6 Man-at-arms of Dol Amroth
----
Warband 3 5/12
Engineer Captain
3 Citadel Guard with Longbow;
1 Avenger Bolt Thrower with Engineer Captain;
----
Warband 4 8/12
Beregond
3 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield;
5 Guard of the Fountain Court
----

Gondor Fiefdoms models: 40
Warband 1 9/12
Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth
3 Knight of Dol Amroth with armoured horse; Lance;
6 Knight of Dol Amroth
----
Warband 2 10/12
Forlong the Fat
1 Knight of Dol Amroth with Banner;
3 Man-at-arms of Dol Amroth with Pike;
6 Axeman of Lossarnach
----
Warband 3 12/12
Angbor the Fearless
3 Knight of Dol Amroth
3 Man-at-arms of Dol Amroth with Pike;
6 Clansman of Lamedon
----
Warband 4 5/12
Beregond
3 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield; Spear;
2 Citadel Guard with Longbow;
----

So I created a Jack of all trades list, much like Oily suggested. I like my Fiefdoms list, I might try that. I now need to decide soon who I'll take because the tournament is closing in and a good chunk of my models are unpainted.

nice army list, i think that a few units of rangers wouldent be a bad idea.

Post subject:  Re: 650pts Gondor lists

Avenger bolt thrower is jsut a big S hit bow with multiple shoots.... bettewn average shooting value + range it doesnt seem great deal.. I would replace it for rangers then I would take that list 1.

Seems better although the other army looks bigger, it does not include gandalf the grey, the wizard can prove itself usefull around, just get off that bolt thrower and get some rangers and a few more warriors and all done and ready to go.

Well my results were: won my first 2, lost the last 3. Last two games were close, one game was a no contest lost.

Overall I was taking a butt kicking even with the games I won. I was getting killed more than I was killing, I am still a bit green though when it comes to this game. My superior numbers is what made most of the games hard for my opponents, especially when working around objectives; hold ground, king of the hill, capture the flag.

now you see when you fight armies that got more than you or more Strength....

What have you learned from that list?
Strong and weaker points?

Well F4 doesn't matter much when half the opponents are elves, D7 only matters against S4 & higher. My rangers were useless throughout until the last game where they killed several Uruks and weaned down an Isengard troll to 1 wound. Wasn't aware of Thranduil's dirty bomb rule which made me lose King of the Hill, otherwise scenarios where holding objectives are key, numbers were a factor obviously.

People like to do special rule/magic combos, particularly Angmar, which I guess that army is geared towards. Will put up a short summary post later.
