Post subject: | 1200 points - Isengard and Mordor |
After my last battle with 600 points, the next one will be drastically increased, as we are going for 1200 points! I am not quite sure what I will be facing, but I know for a fact that Radagast will be included. The mainstay of the army will however be Elves (any of the armies) or Humans (Numenor, Minas Tirith and Arnor with Malbeth and Rangers etc). Here is my current setup: Warband 1 Lurtz 2 Uruk-hai Warrior with Shield 8 Uruk-hai Warrior with Pike 1 Uruk-hai Berserker Warband 2 Uglúk 2 Uruk-hai Warrior with Shield 8 Uruk-hai Warrior with Pike 1 Uruk-hai Berserker Warband 3 Uruk-hai Shaman 2 Uruk-hai Warrior with Shield 8 Uruk-hai Warrior with Pike 1 Uruk-hai Berserker Warband 4 Vraskû 10 Uruk-hai Warrior with Crossbow Warband 5 Saruman with Horse Warband 6 Gríma Wormtongue Warband 7 The Dark Marshal with Horse 5 Morgul Knight Warband 8 The Witch-king of Angmar with Horse It might be excessive with 3 Uruk Pike-blocks, but I really want to see them fielded, and this is probably the best chance I will have in the near future. I might not go with The Dark Marshall, depending on what type of army I think I will be facing. It will however be one of the other named Ringwraiths who costs the same. The cavalry I will be facing will be limited to a maximum of 5-6 normal/elite mounted warriors, and 1-2 mounted heroes. Therefore it should be enough with 5 Morgul Knights, as to counter his charge or attack his flank. I want The Witch-king included, due to his ability to counter Radagast, and to provide casting if he is not only used as an direct counter (removing Willpower and breaking the staff). Any help or feedback is appreciated, as always |

You don't need three spellcasters of that calibre. I'd drop either Saruman or the Witch King. Perhaps you should have a monster of some description. |

Drop the DM for a Numenorean Marshall on horse then upgrade the WK to have a fell beast |

at this many points you should consider Sauron. I found that Sauron terrify most opponent as soon as he's deployed. Sauron will always be in your opponent's mind for the whole game. |

I would love to field a Fell Beast and/or Sauron, but I do not have the models.. Maybe it is time to support my Hobbit hobby yet again |

What about trolls? Do you have any of those? In a large point battle like this, the Trolls hurling people could help you rack up some kills fast. Just a suggestion. I do agree that three high powered spell casters is a little too much. |

I do have a recently painted Isengard Troll, but I have just aquired a Fell Beast, which can do the same Here is my list, which is heavily Crossbow focused! Warband 1 12/12 Lurtz 2 Uruk-hai Warrior with Shield 8 Uruk-hai Warrior with Pike 2 Uruk-hai Berserker Warband 2 12/12 Uglúk 2 Uruk-hai Warrior with Shield 8 Uruk-hai Warrior with Pike 2 Uruk-hai Berserker Warband 3 12/12 Vraskû 12 Uruk-hai Warrior with Crossbow Warband 4 12/12 Uruk-hai Captain with Crossbow; Heavy armour 6 Uruk-hai Warrior with Pike 6 Uruk-hai Warrior with Crossbow Warband 5 12/12 Uruk-hai Captain with Crossbow; Heavy armour 2 Uruk-hai Warrior with Crossbow 10 Orc Warrior with Spear Warband 6 0/12 Khamûl the Easterling with Fell Beast; Warband 7 0/12 The Undying with Horse Units: 67 Points: 1200 Might: 17 Will: 37 Might swap out The Undying for another named Ringwraith, depending on what utility I need from the Special Rules. So far the idea is to have the Undying regaining his Will when Khâmul hopefully manages to cast his spells, before Khâmul himself regains his Will when Wounding.. |

I would really recommend is dropping Ugluk, and/or Lurtz, for shaman. Fury is going to be huge with a list with that many Uruks. Trade out some of the pikes for more shield Uruks. You won't be able to get 2 pike supports all the time, and the shields help against the str 3 of most good forces. Something like 7 pikes per 12 total combat troops is going to be a bit more reliable than the 8, and with the 10 orcs with spear in that 5th warband, you have quite a few more supporting models than you could need (maybe swap 5 of them to shields?). I'm a fan of running orcs with spears behind the shield uruks/berserkers instead of pikes to get a mix of strength values (no difference in the value of the strength 3/4 against D3/5/7, so having some str 3 in there keeps the points a bit more efficient vs mixed defense armies), bolster the body count, and allow the army to spread out a bit more effectively. A taskmaster would be a good addition to increase might (can be a ~87.5% increase in might if you only use might for heroics within range), but you might have to drop a few crossbows. The Knight of Umbar or shadow lord might be better than Khamul, depending on what you are up against. If it's heavy on bows, the shadow lord; if there are big heroes/monsters, KoU; if lots of troops, Khamul. Aside from that, it's a tough list and will be hard to fight for most armies. Plenty of magic between the Undying and the second wraith to shut down heroes, and that many crossbows will be able to whittle down pretty much any list for combat, and you have enough might. |

Thanks for the input, Asamu I already figured that I needed the Shaman, and have incorporated him into my new list! |
