First post and looking to optimize my mostly fluff army from the frozen north.

Leader WB1:
Witch King of Angmar+3might+5Will+2Fate
-Fell Beast

=170pts

WB2:Shade
10 Orcs with spear and shield
1 banner
1 cave troll

=270pts

WB3:Orc Shaman
10 orcs
1 cave troll

=200

WB4:Barrow Wright
4 Dead Marsh specters

=110

Total=750, 4 might, 31 models

My only experience with Angmar(which i love both from a gameplay and lore perspective) is one game against goblin horde. I faired pretty well around the shade, but i had no real killing power outside of buhdur and fury really neutralized a lot of my terror based abilities.

My main concern is balancing model count and killing power. I have the trolls to kill with the shade, but this eats up a lot of points and i might break earlier. I'm afraid my current list is too small and too weak. so im considering in allying in some stronger forces without cheese.

I could drop a troll or two and my orc warbands for more elite frontline troops:

Black guard of barud dur and orc spearmen (whose to say the witch king wouldn't take an elite guard for himself?).

Gundabad orcs hobbit editions (in the lore the witch king did employ gundabads in his forces)

Combination of gundabad spear and black guard or any other combanation of orcs.

Question: in the rules for fury, it says it affects any model of the same race, so a regular orc shaman's fury should still apply to the black gaurd and gundabad right?

What are you guy's thoughts? Should i roll more horde and spam troops, or go for more elite and focus on being in the shades range. Additionally, what are your thoughts on witch king as the leader? I figure at 750 i'll want "your staff is broken" and the might for survivability.

Yes/no , it does But uruk-hai (black guard are mordor uruks arenn't they?) count as a different race as far as I know, just like the untolkien distinction between goblins and orcs.

regarding your army list, I would swap the wight and cave troll for Buhrdur and spend the other points if left on extra orcs. Burdhur is for a few extra points, so much better then a cave troll, when the lines clash, an heroic combat, or might spend on winning, so that you can throw an enemy through enemy lines is a must!

Just checked the sourcebook and you're right about the black guard :(. But you do feel more cheaper orcs is the way to go?

I think the lack of Might may turn out to be a big problem. Usually 750 pts armies have at least 10 might.

On the other hand, they do have two Ringwraiths specifically designed to suck might out of opposing forces - the Dwimmerlaik and the Tainted.
