I need some help around here with Rohan, I just dont wanna go the typhicall Rohan with eomer, erkenbrand combo, just trying something diferent...

4 warbands 2 on foot and 2 on horse.
Hard hitter warband is lead by Eorl with Eowyn support warband for being cheap and adds numbers, while on foot a regular captain and grimbold boost my line with all S4 models.

Trying something different always deserves praise, so enjoy and see how you get on!

As for critique, Rohan Captains aren't fantastic but Eorl and Eowyn are good choices

Grimbold's upgrade is cool, but consider what you're up against. Str4 will help against d4 or d6, but you could consider modelling your Rohirrim with axes for free and piercing strike for higher strength, especially when considering the below.

If you're giving them shields, remember D5 is only useful against str2 (so bows) or slightly against the rarer str5 (compared to D4 of course) so might be worth, unless up against lots of str2 bows, not giving them shields. This means the risk of piercing striking and increasing your strength by d3 is minimal and removing the shields and helmingas upgrades gives you 40 points to play with.

If you're not take Helmingas, then Grimbold becomes a little pointless unless you want that two handed weapon option or want to start with higher strength (so range of piercing strikes goes from 5-7 instead of 4-6) since he is only f4, d5. Better to kit out a captain if you're set on taking them and getting a horse, heavy armour and shield.

And I know you don't want to take Erkenbrand but…

Yes Rohan captains are not that fantastic, but for a cheap model with Defence 7 its all not that awfull and keep it themed anyway....
About Grimbold yes all my rohan warriors are helmingas thats why they are 20 instead of 23 without the upgrade.

I just picked them with shields for a couple reasons:
1- better defence vs S2 bows (of the few players here I do get to fight back harad sometimes and gondor of late) and some moria guys
2- defence 5 vs S6 helps me really cause the troll need 4s rather than 3+ to wound me, unless they use power attacks in which case only 1 model dies to a 3+ to wound, so I rather gives them a bit more defence vs brutes like this...
3- also with shield gives me shielding in which vs higher fight value models I can simply block as well as I can get not only axes but sword and work out a bit like goblins, lower fight value vs high fight value with through attricion re-rolling 1s to wound might be usefull.
4- since I got no spears I better least relie on something I can least of the few times they win combat they hit hard.

I know about the erkenbrand deal lol and hes a steal for his cost as well as for 1pt more giving riders fight 4, but alas I dont have points for all...

But gonna try to rebuilt another version and see what you think...
Btw im not all round cav army, I wanted to get flexible in many ways through foot and cav...

I just got a question:

Grimbold upgrade says affect warriors of rohan, is that the warriors of rohan entry or the foot soldiers?

I'd be more inclined to try…

Your captain with his d7 leading his d5 troops are your front screen against bow fire, your goal is to horde your Warriors of Rohan with axes against your enemy, piercing striking to raise your strength to 4-6 without paying the 30 points it would cost to upgrade these guys to Helmingas.

Lot's of cheap might, lot's of killing power.
