| Post subject: | Help against bow armies while playing Umbar. |
Hi guys, first time post here. Recently I have been having trouble going up against bow heavy armies with my corsairs. I have a few captains, Dalamyr, Bo'sun, Reavers and other normal corsairs. What is a way that I can deal with this? (I do not mind using models from other lists as long as it is somewhat fluffy). Thanks a lot  .

Well advice number 1 is simply use Pavise Crossbowmen to counter their bow fire Edit: Corrected Unit name (ive been playing too much Age of Empires lol started using those unit's names) |

Can cheap fast cav be used to tie up/harass their bowline as to allow my main force to cover the gap without getting killed? |

Put a line of Easterlings with shields in front of them. Or, secretly attack on ships from behind the enemy like they did in the movie and hope your opponents not [word deleted] that you made up rules on the fly. |

If it is really that much of a problem then Shadow Lord is your best bet, but i have trouble seeing shooting making that big an impact given how close armies deploy in most scenarios. What scenario is it you really struggle with? |

Usually we play to the death, or reconnoiter. If it helps my opponents usually take Mirkwood, ranger Arnor lists, and sometimes Hunter Orcs (least annoying of the three). On a side note, the Arnor player will deploy his few rangers of the north first; allowing him to place his generic rangers in an advantageous position in response to my deployment. |

Hey Havanna, welcome to the forums. It's always great to see a new face When facing bow heavy armies it's always best to take advantage of any terrain. Make it trickier for your opponent to get a good angle on your soldiers. As for troop selection, Lord of the BrownRing has it right; a line of high defence easterlings should do wonders. Or if you have access to any sort of defence 7 troops, even better. What bow heavy armies are you facing? |

Arnor, (only consists of rangers) and Elves (Mirkwood and High Elves), are the two armies which I face that consist primarily of bows. I can go into more detail about the lists if needed. Thank for the help guys

Well you could take more crossbowmen and try to protect your corsair with scenics advancing slowly against your enemy |

Arbalesters will beat the proverbial out of most range armies, if your opponents wants to go that way, beat him at his own games. You'll have superior Defence and Strength. Just make sure you have enough of them, as a Harad and Umbar player I can vouch for their effectiveness in large groups. As regards cheap cavalry, Haradrim Raiders are the way to go, cheap as anything with lances and poisoned arrows to boot. For your infantry, I either run Reavers with Harad spear support for cheapness, or Mahud with Corsair spear support, for the combined Fight, Strength, and Defence. Try to get some Arbalesters from Ebay.
