Post subject:  Minas Tirith 600point list

I've decided to take a Minas Tirith force to an upcoming 600 point tournament and have written the list, however I haven't really played much with Minas Tirith and am not sure if it'll be competitive. Here's the list...

Warband 1
Gandalf the Grey

Warband 2
Faramir w. Heavy armour + shield
12 warriors of minas tirth (6 w. shield, 6 w. shield + spear)

Warband 3
Cirion
12 warriors of minas Tirith (same as warband 2)

Warband 4
Captain w. shield
4 warriors of minas tirith w. shield + spear

Main problem I have is I don't own any of their elite units (ie. rangers, citidel guard , fountain guard etc). Are warriors capable with the back up of their elites?

Any tips or advice would be great!

Oh and it's a strict good vs evil tournament so only fighting evil armies =)

The list is about as best as you can do without elites available.
Acquiring Damrod and some rangers would make for a great replacement of warband 4.
Theres always the option of adding citadel guards or fountain court guards as spear support which would raise the fight value of your shield walls and you could do this by switching beregond in for cirion to gain some spare points.

Although WOMT are a nice, solid basic unit to form the backbone of an army, I've always found that Gondor needs to use their elites. The higher FVs, special rules, and better weaponry will prove invaluable; I'd heavily suggest you consider purchasing some.

As for the list, I'd say it's too small for 600pts. I'd take out Gandalf or Faramir and add in another Warband led by Beregond. Do you know what other armies people will be bringing?

hmm i see room in their for some rangers or citadel gaurds or fountain cort troops. i would ditch gandulf unless u know that range will be a issue in the tournament other wise that blinding light will come in handy.

I don't think WOMT generally have to worry about enemy ranged fire unless it's uruk crossbows or other high strength weaponry.

Out of the elites, what would you guys say are the best for their points?

I think I have some fountain guard I could rustle up

I'm partial to Rangers because of their shoot value and fight value. But Fountain Guard are solid too

Is shielding them a must? or can they get away without?

I often add a Shield to the Fountain Guard but it depends on who you may be fighting as the +1 Defense is often useful, I seldom use the shielding rule with them thou so its purely preference

I agree with James. A bunch of rangers led by Damrod always finds its way in to my Gondorian army list. They're very cheap for what they do, and you can even get them in to combat if you keep them close to your higher defence models.

Shielding Fountain Court guard will be useful if you think you're coming up against armies with a lot of strength 4.
