Post subject:  New player - 500 Rohan
Hello, made this list for a first game of sbg. I have cavalry, archers and warrriors which should give me tactical depth. No big models since they take up some many points in a 500 list. Maybe thats a mistake and I will be crushed by a single individual character of the opposing army? Comments anyone ?

084 :: Erkenbrand + Horse + Redshields Upgrade
117 :: Riders 9x

076 :: Grimbold + Helmingas Upgrade
080 :: Warriors 10x + Shields + Bows

065 :: Captain + Heavy Armor + Shield
077:: Warriors 11x + Shields

If those in Grimbold's warband have shields and bows, I'd drop one or the other. Besides that, with only 21 models (Riders of Rohan don't count at all when figuring out bow percentage) you could have 7 bowmen.

Warriors of Rohan NEED throwing spears, otherwise they just get mobbed :( Perhaps swap the captain for Eowyn aswell?

I see, so captains don't count either in the percentage. Only troops.

Right, only troops. You should probably upgrade all your WoR to Helmingas, IMHO it's about the only thing that makes them useful. Also, it prevents you from having to use a different paint job to identify them. Throwing spears are the other asset, and now that they have an 8" range it makes Rohan the most skirmishy army in the game. So I'd skip the WoR with bows and give them all shields + TS. The S3 is a nice overlap with S2 bows...use your RoR to target D4 and D6 targets, and your WoR to target D-odd.

I would say Dwarves; they are slower but way more heavily armoured then the warriors of Rohan. They compensate each other I reckon. 8)

I wouldnt issue all your helmingas/warriors with throwing spears. At 2pts each they are very expensive. Issue half of your warbands (6 models) with throwing spears and the rest hand weapons and shields. With the remainder points add another helminga with shield in each warband taking it up to 12 warriors the max.

Apart from that a good army.

Minas tirith is a good ally for Rohan. Consider the average price for heavily armoured infantry. I would mount all your rohan and have solid blocks of womt. A good force.

I'd say Grey company, as they can all shoot and you could give them all spears to support your infantry as rohan don't have any spears

Rohan does have spears :-D I agree with Minas Tirith as ally too though, same thing with the heavy armour :wink:

No, Rohan do not have spears, they have throwing spears - big difference.

Gondor would be quite good though

Although army lists are quite hard to make for them for low points

The woses make good allied if you have the maneuverability to deploy them away from shooting...
