khazad dum battle - highlights

Hello peeps

Being a silly combat wombat, I decided to book a game @ my local GW for the campaign it's running.
The campaign is basicly that the comanders of armies (good or bad) are being corrupted. To represent this you can bring an army that uses a leader of the opposite side (ie Frodo leading orcs or Sauron leading elves)

I really wanted some reasonably good theme so I cooked up this list:

The balrog
Gandalf

=570pts

The story goes that Gandalf and the Balrog are prepping for the epic confrontation on the bridge of khazad dum when The balrog walks over with great menace. He steps onto the bridge and Gandalf gets ready to strike, but then... the Balrog extends a hand of friendship!?! Gandalf, being a kind, nice wizard,forgives him for his flamy-ness and shakes (painfully) the massive hand. Minutes later, the pair are best buddies and Gandalf boots frodo out of the fellowship so that his new found friend can join.

The pair stride into Mordor and destroy the ring very easily... after that, they go on many other great adventures together and have great fun.

Anyway, what do you think of my list? How do you think it could work? Any other nice thematic lists anyone can think of?

This is strangely brilliantly awsome, and so usual I love it!

in game though, keep gandalf back and blasting things while the balrog smashes things. I think you might be a little better if you bring Bombur to regenerate will, but that's just my opinion and is not really nessesary.

I would take sauron and gandalf and get gandalf to keep casting strengthen will on Sauron. Unlimited Chill soul

Well, I did say that I was a silly combat wombat

@haldir: yeah, I did consider Bombur but that would have taken me over the points limit and it wouldn't be so thematic. Thanks for the advice!

I suppose thematic was the wrong word :rofl:

perhaps more like 'unfitting with the fluff'

Lol, fair enough on the fluff. Ide be funny if you took Radagast and Bombur, regenerate the lost wounds on the balrog and regenerate the lost will on Radagast........

well, I won!

I didn't get any pictures because we were in a rush to get out the door.

We played the 'Hold Ground!' scenario

I was facing (my brother):

Shadow lord on a horse (pet name: Chris)
Orc captain
Aragorn
24 orcs

My tactics were:
Gandalf climbing up a ruin to stand around blasting people with SB.
The Balrog picking orcs off and then throwing them at the other orcs.

Highlights included:
- A lone orc charging the Balrog, beating him, and then causing a wound :-X

- Gandalf (over the course of the whole battle) blasting over half of the orcs off the top of a hill
- The shadow lord being knocked off his horse and, seeing as my bro forgot to bring the foot model, he was swapped for a skull floating above a laptop (some 40K thing :roll:

)
- The Balrog chucking people all over the place
- The Balrog throwing an orc 12" straight into a building
- The Balrog and Gandalf having a great time catapulting orcs everywhere

We didn't play with the new rules for weapons but the new rules for monsters are awesome! (aslong as you're the one with the monster

)

In the end it was really close: 5 - 4 to me.
Overall a really great, freindly game
