1250pts Allied Army

My local GW is running a 1250pt "Hobbit" Warhost (conveniently renamed after the release of the rulebook, I doubt anyone is actually doing a Hobbit only army) made up over 10 weeks, adding 250pts per fortnight.

I have a game with the first 250pts tonight, but I was hoping I could get some input from you guys as to what you think about my 1250pt list.

I have tried to keep it relatively true to theme by only including heroes from the same timeline and who could conceivably work together.

Warband 1 - 254 pts
Gimli
8x Iron Guard
4x Khazad Guard

Warband 2 - 235 pts
Gandalf the White, on Shadowfax

Warband 3 - 303 pts
Halbarad with Banner of Arwen Evenstar
12x Rangers of Arnor (4 with Spear)
3x Rangers of the North with Spear

Warband 4 - 190 pts
Erestor
11x Rivendell Elves + Elven blade

Warband 5 - 268 pts
Eomer (Pellenor fields)
5x Rider of Rohan
4x Sons of Eorl

Bang on 1250pts. Good magical ability, lots of bow fire from the Grey Company detatchment, Big hitting cavalry in Eomer's warband and a good bit of punch in combat from the Elves and the Dwarves, especially if I send Halbarad into the centre with them, the range and abilities of the Banner of Arwen Evenstar are pretty impressive.

I can't think of much more to add, I am tempted to swap out all of the Riders of Rohan for Sons of Eorl, but that would be expensive, and I don't have a lot of pennies. I have all of the other stuff, apart from Halbarad, the 3x Rangers of the North and the Sons of Eorl at the moment.

If I'd had the points I would have preferred to take Glorfindel to Erestor as he has the extra M/W/F and is just totally epic! But, alas, his awesomeness comes at a heavy points cost.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I will also be posting most of this army on my WIP as well as I only have the dwarves painted so far, so the rest of it will be a nice little project over the festive period (in addition to all of my Moria backlog).

From what I've gathered from this forum (and trust me, it's a pedants point) where you have Warband 3, your Rangers of the North are independent heroes so are Warbands themselves?

So should look like

Warband 3
Halbarad with Banner of Arwen Evenstar
12x Rangers of Arnor (4 with Spear)

W4
Ranger of the North (spear)

W5
Ranger of the North (spear)

W6
Ranger of the North (spear)

Sorry for the pointless contribution, I'm learning! Good luck and let us know how these games go. Maybe take some pictures and give a battle report?

I think you ought to fit a banner somewhere.
I don't want to be critical but I don't think your army is that thematic. It is hard to imagine that High Elves would cooperate with Dwarves and Rohirim.

What will your other lists be?

Thematically it would be after the battle of the pellenor fields. Gandalf the white calling on his allies and friends, possiby after gimli takes lordship of the caves at helms deep. I could swap out Erestors warband for wood elves with legolas, or galadhrim elves with rumil/celeborn/galadreil.

I chose halbarads banner because of its 6" range and auto-pass courage tests.

I could free up some extra points by getting rid of the riders of Rogan and just taking 6 sons of eorl.

Swap out some elves with glaives for ones with spear+shield to support your iron guard, together they will cleave a path though many a foe. Or add a banner for the dwarves, actually you should have at least 1 banner with so many foot troops and so little spear support. Ide also recommend giving 4 elves elven bows, because they could come in handy during the fight.

I don't know the rules for the banner of arwen evenstar, but even if it behaves like a normal banner you should still have another one on hand.

Because of the elves great ability with bow I would make them archers instead of spearmen

Only 4 of the elves can take a now in that warband because the limit applies per contingent, not over the whole army.
