I have been playing dwarves for a few months now, I really enjoy their high defense. I however feel as if I'm not playing them to their fullest. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out w/ a solid 500 point army. I have every dwarf in the Durin's Folk line. I enjoy Dain, Murin/Drar, Balin. I also find myself not liking Khazad guard same D as a dwarf war w/ shield and only a bodyguard rule which dwarves have high C anyhow.

I typically go light to no bows and just go for numbers and a few nice heroes with a healthy amount of might:

Warband 1

Dain
4 Iron Guard
3 Khazad guard
5 Dwarf war w/ shield
263 points

Warband 2
Balin w/ axe
Dwarf Banner
11 Dwarf w/ shield
217 points
480 Total

This is a generic group I run for numbers a couple elites and 2 solid heroes. I play w/ Murin/Drar alot and I mix in the King's Champion every now and then.

Any tips, tricks, or helpful suggestions will be appreciated. I tend to fight Isengard Uruk-hai, Goblins, or Angmar based armies. We generally stick to a theme so I rarely ally in spears (well I've never done it)

those vault wardens look pretty cool. might try that, can get rid of all those 2H axes.

Hi there!

This is one of my common army list at 500 pts:

Balin, son of Fundin with Durin's Axe;
5 Dwarf Warrior with Shield;
1 Dwarf Ranger with Two-handed weapon;
4 Iron Guard
2 Khazâd Guard
----
Warband 2 10/12
Dwarf Captain
10 Dwarf Warrior with Dwarf bow;
----
Warband 3 10/12
Dwarf Captain
10 Dwarf Ranger
----

The idea is to maximize numbers but having some quality troops (like Khazad Guards and Iron Guards principally). One/two Dwarf captains can be replaced by Shieldbearer for more fun! Depends on how much Might do you want or need (I usually take two shieldbearers protecting Balin). Dwarf rangers woth Dwarven longbows are better but I prefer using the bowman taking them slowly into combat using their bows as a support. Shields are used to hold on positions while the "cream" of the team take down the enemy. Take care of Dwarf rangers, they are the weakest troop in defense but they are number meat!
The only problem is that you have two warbands not complete (10/12) but almost. It depends on you if you prefer more numbers sacrificing elite troops.

Perhaps it could help you for some inspiration :)
Good luck!

I am so leary of Khazad guards. I hardly ever need the bodyguard rule. Dwarves are such a high courage that its kinda wasted on them as well. I also think for the points I'd rather just have another dwarf warrior w/ shield same def/attacks.

Strength 4 is the important stat anyway :P Because if you don't have Murin and Drar (and I don't like them very much), then you are lack of S4.

Murin and Drar are great imo. high points but you are getting 6 might and 4 attacks. Their special rules are also both very helpful in every match. Then str 4 is on every warrior, making khazad guards w/ shields.

So say you were allowed 100 more points on the Dwarven army. What might your lists look like then? :rofl:

The problem is Murin and Drar only commands one warband and numbers are really important. Anyway I hope with the Hobbit release some cheap "captains" appear to improve dwarves in a competitive way :)

Don't worry about getting some cheap captains with 13 Dwarves, Dain and probs some sort of lieutenant for Dain you are going to have more heroes than you know what to do with. Personally I'm really looking forward to a few cheap elf heroes (on the 'leaked' list there are about three or four new guys :) )

I put some spears and Dol Amroth pikes behind Kazad Guard, and watched them eat through a line of Dead Army w/Shields. Very little seems to hold up against F4, S4, D7 and 3 attacks. I miss being able to Shield, however. Vault Wardens seem to offer very litle tactical advantages for their points...but I have no experience with them. And D7 is great against S2 bows, but normal S3 warriors wound on a 6, just like D6...so it seems a waste in Warbands, as arrows aren't the threat they were. Maybe if the Hobbit brings out Dwarf spears, a pure Dwarf army will look more competitive... But again, I speak from little expeience against Dwarves.

Did not know 2 handed could be supported by pikes . Dont think the khazad guard can be supported by spear/pikes

They can as long as they use their hand weapon instead of their two handed one.
