So in a week or 2 im going to have a game against a buddy of mine and i want to have a good'ol fun game. recently ive been playing really competitive armies (SL, queen, prowlers) and so i thought that a break was in order the list: dwellers below: druzhag bat swarm giant spider 34 wargs 12 goblins w/ bows 2 goblins w/ spear 1 goblin dolgul dur: spider queen and a cave drake 700pts 54models, 12 bows, 4 might.... now although the main point is to have fun, i dont want to simply roll over and die. so feel free so suggest stuff ect. i have a strong feeling that i should drop about 8 wargs for more goblins or more might... so tell me if you think this will still be really fun and stronger at the same time my original army was a pure beast army made up of spiders/ bats/ wargs and a drake or dragon , but i added in the goblins since i would get druzhag (fun) and cause i dont want to get shot to pieces and have super low #s (but if anyone thinks that my original army, or a variation or it, could work let me know) oh and im probably going to be vsing elves (w/ possible rohan allies) whafrog where are you, i know your going to like this army |

LOL, yes I do Wish I had that many wargs. I'm wondering if you need two such heavy hitters, or whether you'd be better off with a warg chief + more goblins + another spider or bat, instead of the drake. The warg chief will give you standfast and some extra might. But I haven't had a chance to build my drake yet, so maybe he's worth it. |

I'd keep the Wargs. I think their stat lines are about on par with Goblins anyway and for about the same points but I'm pretty sure your opponent will view the horde of Wargs with more concern than equal points in Goblins, and that has to be considered in the factoring as well. The Goblin + shield may have one more D, but the Wargs have better strength and speed. I've found 20+ Wargs to be a very effective punch to an army for getting early engagement, flanking to archers, or just buffering more important parts of your force, and would love to paint up my last couple boxes of them as well. I'd only suggest leaving out the Cave Drake at this level and putting the points to a Goblin Captain or Warg Chief, a second Bat Swarm (if you own it), and either more Giant Spiders or Goblins. Sorry...don't know the points of a Drake off the top of my head. Or if you do want the Drake, then drop the SQ and beef up the common troops a little more. |

im thinking of dropping the drake and some wargs for sharku and warg riders, although in order to make the alliances work druzhag and gobs will be in the moria list and the wargs ect will be in the dol guldur list. new list durzhag 12 gob w/ bows 13 prowlers 16 spearmen (the archers will get into the fray as well) spider queen giant spider bat swarm 14 wargs sharku w/ shield 6 warg riders (4 w/ shield cause thats what i have) i dont have another powerful monster, but i can enrage sharkus warg |

Looking more flexible. The prowlers will help and I absolutely agree with "archers will get into the fray". Evil archery is usually just there to see if you can soften your target a little. Few models are so much better at shooting than fighting that you want to dedicate them. I haven't played as Goblins yet but My Orc and Isengard Uruk archers (Uruks Scouts) usually just do half-moves toward the enemy and shoot for a couple turns, then forget their bows and charge in full. They may do some damage during the closure, or at least give the other player something to think about, but once they engage they generally provide a nice reinforcements for whatever melee forces arrived first. The addition of the Warg Riders will be good for you I believe. Give them throwing spears if you have the points for it. It will be good to have a Hero with the fast moving models and you can use the normal Wargs to help support the actions of your more effective Riders (manage Zones of Control). Plus I think it will look good on the table. That's an important factor. |

I have to disagree there. Every time I've used throwing spears with warg riders, they never pay off. 5+ shoot value on the charge? That means you'll get 2 hits out of 6 on average and then you have 1/3 of a chance killing something <D6. Not worth it IMO. giving them shields will make them a little more resilient to bowfire. |

Good point. I've been playing Rohan and Wood Elves so much lately I forgot the 5+ on the hit. I definitely think they should get Shields, but Throwing Spears can still be used with Shields. I was mostly suggesting the TSpears if there were extra points to put to them, since he has so few Warg Riders anyway, but considering how poor a shot they are only do so if you already took care of their defense and you can't squeeze another Wild Warg or such in with those points. Even with a 5+ to hit, if you can spare the points that's still something. I saw a Cave Troll do some damage with his chain in one game where I kept him from engaging but my opponent had a few lucky rolls and I think they are only 5+ as well. But with those odds I'd take an extra model first any day (except maybe an extra Goblin). |
