Hi all!
So, it's time to bring death to The Forgoil, Death to the Strawheads, and death to the Robbers from the North! it's gonna be a 2000 points no-hold-barred kill-fest between The mighty army of The White hand and some love-their-horses-more-than-their-wives humans. Here's what I was gonna take:

The Fighting Uruk Hai Battlehost
Uruk Hai Warband (4 companies) w/Saruman
Uruk Hai Warband (4 coys)
Uruk Hai Warband (4 coys) w/Thrydan Wolfsbane
Uruk Hai Phalanx (4 Coys) W/Khamul (ally)
Uruk Hai Phalanx (4 coys)
Then:
1xBerzerkers
2xIsengard Troll Captains
2x Assault Ballistas
Vrashku's Talons (3 Companies)

The idea's to have the Ballistas sit in each corner and blast away, meaning nowhere on the board is safe. Horses can't outrun honking great arrows! Vrashku's Talons have done the business before, and I intend to take-aim at anything in range. The Trolls will protect the flanks and I think fighting before those horses will really help. The 'Zerkers will add muscle to any Phalanx or Warband that crumbles.

The Warbands and the Phalanxes are there to do the grunt work. Khamul and Saruman add, well, what they add, and Saruman creates the 'Fighting Uruk Hai' battlehost. I still have some points left, so I'm thinking Amdur might make a good ally for sheer fightyness, or I could add another Ring Wraith.

I know there are some kick-ass Rohan Battlehosts (The one that means horses still get all their bonuses against Pikes? Ouch...) and I really wanna be sure I have something ready to do the business!

Looks good. Only thing I'd note, though, is lack of cavalry. Even with 2 ballistae, you will still easily get flanked by cavalry. May I suggest a few warg riders? Also, if you're planning on taking Amdur, but him with the berserkers for a truly epic rampage. .

On a 6'x4' board (or even an 8'x4') he should be able to guard his flanks well just by using angled units, slightly back from the line as counter-chargers/flank-shields?

He does look well set up for shooting, and I'd imagine that this is his plan for force projection - rather than cav. Those blocks of 4 x heavy inf will be able to keep up the pressure well on their own. Double-moving Hero trolls can also be a real headache for your opponent. I don't think that Vrashnu's Talons are worth it though, for less points you could have 4 coy of xbow with a Captain, and that would be far more effective. Overall, if figures are the problem, I'd still prefer plain xbow with captain.

Khamul will, of course, be very, very, effective. I think that any darkness casters (even the mouth of Sauron) will be able to handle anything Rohan can throw at you simply through liberal application of 'Pall of night' - to negate charges. So whatever wraiths etc you take, I would focus more on how to get the cheaper Epics with this list in there.

Normally I am a big fan of Ferals over Berserkers but the notion of Berserkers with Epic Rampage is appealing in a twisted way. However, despite my opponent always trying to hide them then work them through little gaps, I always made a point of taking those little companies down ASAP. I am sure your opponent will try and do likewise. Isengard has two out of three of my favourite ambushers in the game, so it seems a shame to not have any.

YMMV etc

Cheers

Top marks to Xelee! Yeah, you pretty much summed up my battleplan. The idea is indeed that force will be projected through firepower, the trolls will be my fast-moving shock unit, and will intercept and ideally smash cavalry. I want to use them in this way because (and it's just an eductaed guess really) I think striking before anything else he has, being able to zoom around, and having a little extra might will come in very handy.

I chose Vrashku, indeed, mostly for the model count. However, I love the 'Take aim!' rule, and I did a good job painting the dude, so his inclusion isn't solely a tactical one! I ean, if he was really lame, I'd drop him, but although his Talons may not be the ooptimal choice, it'd be hard to say they're at all bad. I would consider, however, replacing him with The Betrayer (Cool model too, and offers a similar boost to the squad, plus magic is added to the fire-power...nice!)

It'd true I don't have any ambushers. I like the Feral models and stats, but you know, it's the £ factor. I do, however, have a mess load of scouts, and 'Ugluk's scouts' Battlehost would grant Mauhur and his lads ambush. Of course, that'd mean a pretty comprehensive re-jig of the list, but it does mean it'd include a fun, characterful battlehost. Alternatively, perhaps The Scouts of Saruman Battlehost could be viable? Lurtz's Mighty Blow could come in handy against lots of R2 horses, and boy can those scouts move fast when he's around!

Course these are just ideas, but as always, any replys welcome, and they've been a great help so far!
