I will be entering a tournament in a months time and would like to hear any comments about my army list. : (At the moment I don't know the exact scenarios being played, but they will be from the rule book)

1 Balin

1 Dwarf warrior with banner
2 Iron Guard
10 Khazard Guard
13 Dwarf warrior, Bow
10 Dwarf warrior, Shield
5 Dwarf warrior, Two-handed weapon

500 pts, 41 warriors, 1 hero, 13 Dwarf bow, 3 might.

Was thinking that I might want to swap out 1 Khazard and 1 shield warrior to give Balin Durin's axe. Would this be a good idea?

hmmm, durins axe is something that ill leave up to dwarf players

the army looks very good, you have lots of bows, a banner, plenty of khazad. there are only 2 things that i think might need changing: get more iron guard, and possibly get more might through a capt, but thats a matter of preference (if you know you'll be up against alot of cavalry then get one)
iron guard so super effective for their points, so i would HIGHLY recommend getting more

and i prefer gimli over balin, but thats another preference thing

I would highly recommend Durins axe it makes Balin SO much better.
except for that solid army 8)

I would take some Dwarf Rangers with bows as well; a combination of them and Dwarf Warriors with bow works well. Durin's Axe isn't reallly neccesary, it does make Balin much better at fighting but the main purpose of a Hero is to called Heroic Actions, not to fight.

@Shadowswarm
I also prefer Gimli over Balin however I think that I will take balin without Durin's axe as like General Elessar I am not going to be using him so much as a fighty hero.

If I was to take your suggestion of more iron Guards (just need to keep reminding myself about the throwing weapons  ) would this be the sort of list you would recommend:

1 Balin

1 Dwarf warrior, banner
6 Iron Guard
6 Khazard Guard
13 Dwarf warrior, bow
8 Dwarf warrior, Shield
5 Dwarf warrior, 2-h weapon

498pts, 39 warriors 1 hero.

mmm, that looks like a very nice list. Only thing is reduction in D7 troops and slightly fewer warriors.

@Queen Berúthiel
At a higher points level or if I was taking more heroes I probably would. I am just worried that he is too east to transfix or tied up.

@General Elessar
(I had a feeling you would recommend taking Dwarf rangers with longbow)

I still want to have the option to volley fire if it comes in useful.

So taking on board both your suggestions and Shadowswarms this list would be recommended?:

1 Balin

1 Dwarf warrior, banner
6 Iron Guards
6 Khazard Guards
2 Dwarf rangers, longbow
11 Dwarf warrior, bow
8 Dwarf warrior, shield
5 Dwarf warrior, 2-H weapon

500pts, 39 warriors 1 hero. 11 Dwarf bows, 2 long bows, 3 might.
18 S4 attacks (excluding Balin)
26 S3 attacks
14 D7 units
22 D6 units
2 D5 units

That list looks quite nice. Will test it out soon. Just a little worried about lack of D7 troops (they are so useful against heroes and some monsters).

Yes, it does look like a good list. If you are worried about no having enough Dwarf Warriors with shields, you could swap the 6 Khazad Guard for 7 Dwarf Warriors with shield; you could also then "upgrade" three of the Dwarves with two-handed weapons to shields.

I think it would be a shame to drop all the khazad Guard in the list myself but perhaps that's just sentimental.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Will test out my original list and the one with the Iron Guard and Dwarf ranger with bow.
The one with lots of Iron Guard looks fun. May also try this list:

1 Balin

1 Dwarf warrior, banner
6 Iron Guard
5 Khazard Guard
2 Dwarf rangers, long bow
11 Dwarf warrior, bow
11 Dwarf warrior, shield
2 Dwarf warrior, two handed axe

500 pts.

Looks very good. I think you could drop the dwarfs with dwarf bows for rangers with longbows but that's just taste.

i would definitley have the iron gaurds and i would also try to have a volly as the could be very handy if you are out numbered say against goblins with trolls hope this helps :)

looks like a very solid list 8)
you have numbers, a banner, elites a good hero and volley, but i don´t see the point of having only two longbows. I would take more or none. This is only my point of view though, and except for that it looks very solid
