Post subject: | Tournament coming up, 500 points Good and Evil army |
Hi people, I'm working on an army for upcoming tournament. (SBG) For the good army I was thinking about grey company allied with dead of dunharrow. I bought a box army of the dead, and I have a huge load of dunedain, rangers etc. Now what would be a good list? I was thinking about King of the dead, and perhaps 10-15 Warriors of the dead, and the rest of the army are rangers. For evil, * Khandish king (chariot?) * 2 Khandish captains * 6 Khandish Archers * 12 khandish Warriors * 6 Easterling w. pike * 8 Easterlings w. bow * 10 Easterlings w. Sword * 2 Easterling captains + banners * 10 kataphrakts * Box set haradrim * Box set Corsairs I was thinking to mix the lot, but... the army has to be LOME legal, so the haradrim and corsairs can't be used, because I don't have any heroes. But perhaps I can convert a corsair to a captain. The corsairs have throwing weapons. I know I'm up against an army with 49 corsairs ( nooooh trowing weapon frenzy!) an army of galahdrim.. and some harad armies. I don't know about the rest. My army list has to be done in 1 week, I'll update it as soon as possible. Any help or suggestions are welcome ^_^ |

I used warhammer tomb king shields and dark elf crossbow hands to convert my plastic corsairs into crossbow corsairs. Morover, a special base and more detailed/differently themed paint scheme is all you need to have a corsair captain. I'd say, go ahead and use the allies' advantages. A Bo'Sun is quite useful as a character to allow allies. |

Shouldn't it be 33% bows?! |

It's Grey Company, so, no. To avoid the 33% limit you have to take 1 Ranger of the North (or Dunedain) per 4 Rangers of Arnor. This brings your numbers down, but lets you shoot a lot. |

I think I'm dropping my fallen reals army, and that I'm going to use a Moria army. There is a limit of 50 miniatures, so no huge swarm of Goblins. I was thinking about; 2 Captains - 80 points (1 with bow, and 1 with shield) 1 Shaman - 45 points 2 (3) trolls - 160 points (or 240) 1 Drum - 100 points Goblins sp. - 40 (8 goblins) Goblins bw. - 40 (8 goblins) Goblins sh. - 35 (7 goblins) But.. with this army I don't have that much miniatures. I do have a huge bunch of Goblins, another drum and a dragon. What do you think? |

I would leave the bow off the captain, the shield is a much better option. If you have the command blister with one of them holding a bow, then just convert it and stick on a shield. I would take out one of the trolls and add 8 more goblins with shields and 8 more with spears. I think that they would contribute more than the troll would and it will be harder to kill 16 goblins with bow fire than it would be to kill a troll. |

Really? I was just told that even if you allied Grey Company with another army you still had to have some sort of archer limitation. |

The king of the dead is very good. because of his drain soul special rule he kills if he wounds and because of the blades of the dead he strikes against courage instead of defence. I have used him against a mumak it went down after the first fighting phase (the mumak) |

The king of the Dead is only good if he is really, like really lucky. |

Moria is all about hordes of troops so a harsh limitation of only 50 models for a 500 point army can really cripple your army from one of its biggest advantages. |

The tournament is in 2 days, I'll let you people know how it went. Thanks for al your help My good army list is the one I have up earlier. For the evil army list, I use a dragon, with 2 upgrades (tough hide, flame breath) and the rest of the army are easterlings. *fingers crossed* I hope for a good result, my first tournament in many, many years. |

Yeah, we need a hero, to be legal for legions of middle earth. |

By we need a hero does that mean that you don't have one? |

I assume that he meant that he does have a hero because he is required to field one. |

As promised, the results of the tournament. I had three matches, and all of the matches where with my evil army. The first match was a minor defeat, my easterlings where killed, my dragon killed around the 15 dwarfs, 2 more and I won this game. The second match was almost a massacre.. against me! My easterlings where shot again, this time by some nasty elves. He used volley fire, and.. well most of my easterlings where killed in the first few turns. My enemy was fighting with all metal haldirs elves and Gwaihir (a very nice and detailed miniature) and my dragon almost made a fried Gwaihir The reason that I wasn't massacred, was that I had 1 objective and the other one was contested. The other two where claimed by my opponent. The third and final match was against Rohan (who where really, really nice painted as vikings, great work Coen!) and that went really well, my dragon killed his line of archers with a fireball. One turn there is a line of archers, the other turn.. there are eight small hopes of ashes. Since then.. well it didn't fair well, again the easterlings where killed and my force was broken again. So, I have learned a few very wise lessons; * A dragon in a 500 points army with two upgrades is not a good idea * Don't spend a whole night painting your good army and don't get to play with it on the next day But I hope the next tournament comes really fast, because I really enjoyed it, although I was number 8 from the 9 persons. |

Haha well yeah, same as with the dragon. To few miniatures for such a small game. The dragon is worth in 750 or more points. As is the necromancer (perhaps 500 point games). |
