The hobbit rules came out december so the meta is still being established... but generally the all rounder solid shield wall, decent heroes, only taking bows if they are good at shooting is doing ok.
All hero looks good still.. especially if 1 hero is a monster.

I think the new meta is "good players win more" :P

We never really had much for shield walls used locally.

New meta is not old meta but here is some old meta... which still works well in the new system. We have a blessing in the UK to have people who can be competative without sacrificing too much theme/fun.

WK
Druzhag,
Shade
Goblin Shamans
Gundabads supported by goblin spears
a few bat swarms and giant spiders

Legolas
Thranduil
Stormcallers
possibly celeborn
1/3 bow, 2/3 spear

well stormcallers have the ability to regain will if they roll a 6 when casting so have a lot of potential. Thranduil is even better now due to Aura of Dismay being an exhaustion spell. And WE w/ spear can shield if outnumbered.

Sure Mr Cereal will expand later.

Chuck in Groblog for 5+ Fury and I pretty much played that army in the Throne of Skulls last weekend, I lost but it didn't feel invincible.

As for Thranduil, he can also now channel his Circlet of Kings 'spells' - essentially at the start of the game Thranduil gives up a point of Might to make all elves within 12" of him cause terror for the entire game unless he's killed or runs out of will - Absolutely horrific

Ok this I don't understand why the rest 2/3 of your army spears most of the battle reports I've read they involved shieldwalls so why waste points by giving your front troops spear instead of just a sword and a shield???
Are there other tactics involved in order to explain this decision??

Because you can shield with wood elf spears. Besides, I've found having more spears gives a lot more tactical flexibility.

Happy to expand.

Basically storm callers are a pocket knife.

They have a spell that will balance out the lack of numbers by natures wrath knocking everyone over. At which point you set about spiking stuff on your spears.

Call winds... 2+
Possibly the most cool spell ever. If your opponent fails their roll then they may end up flying away 2D6 inches. Which is rather powerful when you think about it and easy to cast.

AND they get a rule which means if you roll any natural 6's you get all that will (used in that cast) back.

Spears for the very reason Whafrog said.
Wood elf spears can shield. So if I am outnumbered I can shield with some to release others to kill.

Before the hobbit came out
Wood elves were stronger

Before warbands
Both were similar but wood elves were popular and affordable

10 royal guard with shield
10 spear n shield elf
10 bow elf

Gilgalad on horse
Glorfidenl on Horse
Twins on horse
Another hero on horse.

I saw a list similar to that on TLA, it was like: Gil-Galad, Twins, Glorfindel, elendil, and 20-30 high elves I think. All heros were mounted. Seems quite devastating.
