Hi guys,

As the subject says I've got a small tournament coming up at my local GW for 750 points WotR armies. The tournament is on December 31st and I'm playing Elves. I'd like to have a bit of advice on how to construct a list please. Here's what I've got in terms of models suited for WotR:

16 Galadhrim w/Elven Blade
16 Galadhrim w/Spear & Shield
16 Galadhrim w/Elf Bow
8 Galadhrim Knights w/Elven Blade & Shield
4 Galadhrim Knights w/Elf Bow

Potential Allies:

8 Warriors of Rohan w/Shield
8 Warriors of Rohan w/Throwing Spear
8 Warriors of Rohan w/Bow
8 Dwarf Rangers w/Two-handed Axe
8 Dwarf Rangers w/Throwing Axes
8 Dwarf Rangers w/Bow
12 Riders of Rohan
1 Ent
24 Rangers of Middle earth

I have all the Elven Heroes except for the twins and Arwen. I have a large selection of other Good Heroes as well to choose from.

I can easily combine groups of the above models to form large companies with upgrades (e.g. I can combine the Galadhrim with Elven Blades with the ones with Spears and Shields and still count them as all having shields provided I mix the models up in each company).

To be honest, your collection is better suited for SBG than WotR; you've got too much variety. But never mind, let's see what we can do. :)

We'll start by combining the Galadhrim, like you suggested, into four companies. If we give them shields, that's 200pts and you've got a nice, solid core to your army.

Sticking to the theme of big formations, let's get the three companies of Rangers. Also, for both thematic and competitive purposes, I'd advise taking Faramir as well (if you have him). He's very cheap and effective.

Going back to the Elves, we'll get all the Galadhrim archers in one formation. Altogether that's now 480pts. I'd like to get six companies of Riders of Rohan, but unfortunately there's not enough "ally points" left. Instead, how about four companies of Galdhrim Knights? Finally, add Haldir for your leaders.

Haldir - 75pts
Faramir (allied) - 90pts
Galadhrim Regiment, shields, four companies - 200pts
Galadhrim Archer Regiment, two companies - 100pts
Galadhrim Knight Regiment, four companies - 200pts
Rangers of Gondor, three companies (allied) - 90pts

Totals: 755pts, four formations, thirteen companies, and seven Might.

I realize that this army is 5pts over. Hopefully the tournament organizers are quite liberal... anyways, I hope I helped. :)

Thanks for the help.

I was hoping I could put Thranduil in somehow for 125 points since I like using spells and he's got more resilience than Haldir. I could always remove one company of knights or foot soldiers and swap the two heroes.

What's your opinion on using an Ent? I've only used one once in a game and I remember it being useful.

At that low of a point game the Ent would probably be a significant weak point. They are only H2K and therefore relatively easy to take out. They are pretty effective in combat but only for a short period of time. Unless you just want him for theme or visibility purposes I'd leave him behind (I hate every time I say something like that...H2K models SHOULD be tougher than they are).

Thranduil is a great leader and is in almost every one of my Elf armies (both WotR and SBG). His magic isn't game shattering like some Evil lists, but at the right time the spells can really help. He's a good Dueler and Epic Shot has it's place to be sure. If I could adjust the points I'd take him over Haldir.
