Hi guys,

Can anyone offer some feedback on this list? I'm considering taking it to the doubles next year. I'm not after a super-competetive army I just don't want to get crushed ;). I'm mostly going for fun and maybe a best painted army nomination :). Being a relatively inexperienced player I'd appreciate feedback on good strategies for the list and pro's cons/ what to look out for:

Eomer 75
Shield 5
Horse 10
Total 90

Gamling 50
Royal Standard 50
Horse 10
Total 110

Rohan Royal Guard x 5 50
Throwing Spear x 5 10
Horse x 5 30
Total 90

Rider of Rohan x 6 54
Throwing Spear x 2 4
Total 58

Total: 358pts

Cheers,

Will.

I would suggest you drop one of your heroes and get more numbers.

Yes for 110 I could get quite a few more swords in. Would you suggest more rider or royal guard? I also have some warriors of rohan if some footmen might help balance the list.

Drop the Royal standard (only affects Heroes) and go for some bow armed models, preferably on foot as they shouldn't be charging. Riders of Rohan are 13pts from what i recall. Also you are over 350pts according to what you have put.

Here is an example of what i would change and do:

Eomer 75
Shield 5
Horse 10
Total 90

Gamling 50
Horse 10
Total 60

Rohan Royal Guard x 5 50
Throwing Spear x 5 10
Horse x 5 30
Total 90

Rider of Rohan x 6 78
Throwing Spear x 2 4
Total 82

Warriors of Rohan x 4 28
Total 28

Total: 350pts Exactly.

Just an idea but a bit more balanced, isn't going to win for sure but would be a fun list to play. Basically get in and charge, using the throwing spears to get double charges (by trying to take people out before you move in) and fire those bows at the ones trying to harass the flanks and get in supporting spears. If your doubles partner takes the infantry side of things then you have the cavalry to push through the enemy with.

As I see it would be bteer to drop the warriors and get riders... Althought you lose numbers they will be more effective as the whole arm ywill march and the rest will be left behind... Or else just give them bows 8)

How about if I drop Gamling and take a few more Riders? I've heard that Eomer and a few Royal Guard can do alot of damage so that seems sensible to take. So just out of curiosity, what might make a competitive Rohan list? I know very few peple win with Rohan but I'd like to know anyway :).

You don't need two heroes in that small a force. I would add some WoR so that your RoR can all use their bows, and then add as many RoR as you can. Maybe drop an RRG, 5 is probably overkill and they are expensive. One idea:
Eomer, loaded - 90
4 RRG throwing spears, mounted - 76
2 Sons of Eorl - 44
3 WoR, shield - 24
3 WoR, shield, throwing spear - 30
4 RoR, throwing spears - 60
2 RoR - 26
350 points, 18 models, 6 bows

Rohan has become the Khand of Good...not great on their own, best allied with others. Adding Woses gives you the much needed spear support and some pretty good hitting power against Orcs and their kin. Lothlorien is also a good ally, for spears, bows and general fight-winning potential. If you combine them with Grimbold and his ability to give WoR S4 it can be pretty effective.

Though as this is a doubles list it also depends on your partners list, try to back him up or vice versa, that way you will find the games go more in your favour.

Remember an army of two halves is only as strong as its weakest side.

The only time you should use The Royal Standard (or Gamling for that matter) is if you have a good amount of heros. Spending 1/3 of your pts on him isn't worth it. If you do use The Royal Standard in a larger game, you should bring along a few outriders. For 15 pts a piece (with horse), you can give them a steady supply of might from the Standard, making the Standard pay for itself in terms of free moves and such.

Tbh i would wait till the rulespack for doubles is released, all the scenarios could be very fortress based and even if your not a competetive player you will still respect that its pointless to take an all mounted army if you'd be much better off with a mix.

As whaforg said, you will want to be synergized with your partner, in my dream world where every scenario was pitched battle i would do this:

Me:
35 outriders

Partner:
Ghan
Woses

Buuuuut, not everyone is as lame as me. So i suggest this:

Grimbold
20 helmingas (half shield, half shield+throwing spear)
10 warriors of rohan with bow
5 outriders

Dream Partner:
Woses/Grey company

I agree, you should make sure all your Riders of Rohan can use their bows. After all, you have to pay for them. However, you could even out the bow limit by taking some more Royal Guard:

Eomer with horse - 85pts
11 Rohan Royal Guard with throwing spear and horse - 198pts
5 Riders of Rohan - 65pts

Totals: 348pts, 17 Models, 5 Bows, 3 Might

While you're at it, give one of the Riders of Rohan a throwing spear. Then you'll have an even 350.
