I've been wargaming for a long time, mainly historical stuff, but this is going to be my first foray into a fantasy or even GW game. I've bought a load of second hand Rohan stuff, my mates got Uruk and we're going to see how we get on with it. So Hi!

I guess I have a few questions as well thinking about it, what's the current situation with regards to "official" rules? Is the skirmish and big battle set (can't remember their names) still sold, or are they like everything else not 40k considered niche and not supported anymore?

Welcome to the forum. You picked a great game with an even better set of miniatures to go with it!

I'll leave one of the more knowledgeable gamers to fill you in on the rules queries.

Welcome.

Hi and welcome to TOR.

As far as the official rules: The Hobbit Strategy Battle Game, it is supposed to be one of the big three rule sets that GW has. But in reality we all know, it's a the red headed step child of the other 2 main games. It is still fully supported though and will be for a few more years as they are contractually bound to support it.

The big battle version of the rules, The War of the Ring, is officially dead. No more support will be forth coming. That in no means you can't have a great time playing it. I've never played it, but I hear it's good.

Hope that helps.
