I thought id drop in and say hi. I used to play LOTR ages ago back when two towers was released but my gaming buddy moved away. im now looking to get back into it as LOTR was always my favorite war game along with 40k.

im looking to get back into it but really unsure where to start. iv been given the rulebook but thats about it.

whats a good flexible army to start with do people recon?

I think that really depends on what you like. I would advise just going with the army that you like the look of as most armes are quite balanced in gaming terms.

are you more into the gaming side or the hobby side of lord of the rings?

dwarves are a rock solid army. they move a bit slow but with d6-d7 values any enemy arrow with str2 will be almost impossible to kill you. when you get into melee fights thats where your army shines..and if you have a hero like dain with you then you will be very hard to kill. Although if the enemy has cavalry or any str4 models(like most of isengard) then you will be easier to be killed.
It depends on your playstyle and as sid said both are very good choices.

Hi Grumabeth and welcome to the One Ring.

Probably the two most flexible armies are Gondor and Mordor since both have the full range of troop types (foot soldiers, elites, cavalry and siege weapons) and some impressive heroes too (Nazgul, Gothmog, Boromir, Faramir, etc). So I'd suggest you pick one of them depending on your choice of alignment, Good or Evil.

And both of those can ally with other forces easily if you wish to explore a different force in the future.

Welcome to the Onz-Ring family!

I can't help you in advice for armies though, but I'm sure there are some members who know much more about it ;)

Welcome aboard!

I never really played this game so I have no idea wich armies are good or bad, but I always fancied the look of Rohan.

Greetings, and welcome to the One Ring!

I always enjoyed playing my Dwarven army, and would sometimes ally in Radagast for some anti-cavalry and magic.
