I'm painting my first official The Hobbit mini. Its Bard, the McGuiver of The Hobbit (seriously, how many uses can one come up with for a throw blanket? Weapon disguise, rope, solving a genealogy mystery). Anyways, what small eyes he has. I am actually pretty good at painting the eyes of miniatures, but this guy is a joke! Anyone else experience this difficulty with The Hobbit minis. The eyes are noticeably smaller. What are you doing to overcome this obstacle? |

For eyes this small i cover the area white and then apply a black dot for the iris. It may take a try or two to get this right but you can control this. Once done then create the shape of the eye with a brown, like bestial brown. Then you can go to town with your usual skin tones, leaving a very thin like of the brown to edge the eye. That is what I did with my dwarves for my EFGT diorama. |
