Hello everybody! I love collecting miniatures, and would love to own the first and last sets ever released. I know what the first wave of models were, but I've heard that there were sets released before that as promos, like the "Old friends meet again" set. But I haven't heard it confirmed wheter or not it was released before or after the first wave of models in 2001. Additionally I would want the last releases. So, as the title says, does anyone know what the first ever and last releases were for GW LoTR SBG? Thanks! |

Never saw that one before. Both of those models were released inthe Fellowship of the Ring set. If I remember correctly, the models first came out in early November 2001, possibly the 3rd. Bilbo Baggins was a limited edition, which became mail order once stocks sold out. Indeed the very first model I ever bought, on my lunch-break from my Saturday job in a guitar shop. If I remember correctly the first sets released that day were - Fellowship of the ring - Bilbo Baggins - Fellowship of the Ring starter set (Rulebook. elves, men of gondor and goblins. inc. scenery) - Ringwraiths mounted - Attack at Weathertop Possibly Metal orcs, metal high elf spearmen and men of gondor Saruman, Arwen, Elrond, Gil-Galad and Lurtz too. |

I seem to remember the very, very first official release being the Battle of the Last Alliance set, which I believe was accompanied by a rulebook much like starter sets are today. The Fellowship of the Ring and Weathertop miniatures were released around this time too. The last or most recent (without including finecast replicas of metal miniatures), I think would be the Great Beast of Gorgaroth or the Watcher in the Water. Near the very end there was suddenly an influx of massive creatures, that's all I remember. But I could be wrong because it was around 2008 that I joined the dark side of WHFB. |

Thanks guys! A side note: Does anyone know what release "Old Friends Meet Again" were part of? It's a box with the Fellowship version of Frodo and Gandalf. I have seen several sellers claim this is a promo release, but I would like to know for sure if I am ever going to buy one. |

I'm pretty sure "Old Friends Meet Again" was a set with just Frodo and Gandalf released at the premiere of the Fellowship of the Ring film, so before the first wave of minis if I remember correctly... |
