Hi all,

At long last I finally started reading the Lord of the rings. In the prologue is told that the shire had a total of 12 shirriffs, 3 in each farthing.
It is also mentioned that the shirriffs don't have an uniform and are only distinguished from other hobbits by a feather worn in their caps.
I happen to have 12 unpainted shirriffs which I want to paint in a way you can see from which farthing they come.

I found this website describing all four farthings: http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Farthings

I wonder which colours you guys imagine for each farthing.
please help me get some inspiration :-D

well hobbits being very a-uniform, you could make a difference in the feathers they wear. (brown feather, white, white with black top etc) but maybey that would be to subtle for your liking.

Hello All, I too have been painting Hobbits in recent weeks. Since the hobbits don't have a set "uniform" and I'm a bit of a goof ball, I picked a "Happy Days/ Grease " theam for my hobbits that I use in a point match game: Black leather jackets , blue jeans, white shirts. then I hand painted "The Jets" on the backs of the jackets. Trying to achieve a 1950's street gang look. I don't have Lobelia yet, but she is going to get a pink "poodle skirt".
If you want to stay true to the books/movies then maybe paint all the sheriff's hats the same color w/ different color fethers for the different warrens/clans... say blue hats w/ Tooks getting a yellow feather, Baggins a red feather, ect...
Well that's all for now, good luck, and
Happy strategy battle gaming,

The different coloured feather thing is a great tip to give every farthing it's own shirriffs.
I like your idea for the hobbits as well. Are you going to post some pic's when you are finished?
