Post subject: | Fenrisian Wolves OR Fell Wargs |
Hello all, I'm currently toying with the idea of a lore-friendly Gundabad army, trying as best as possible to stay away from the depiction of the Gundabad orcs in PJ's Hobbit trilogy. For my Warg riders I'm looking for a decidedly winter-worn look, and was thinking of buying some 40K Fenrisian Wolves OR TH SBG Fell Wargs on which I would mount and convert a series of LOTR Morannon Orcs which I already own. My main concern is size as I've never seen either of my planned Wargs in person, only in pictures. What would serve better as a Morannon Orc mount? Personally, I prefer the overall look of the Fenrisian Wolves, but if the Fell Wargs fit better then I am more than willing to budge. I'd appreciate any help you can all offer, and thanks very much in advance! |

I saw a post on here with mounted fenrisian wolves. They were awesome and convinced me - way better than the old plastic warg riders. I can't re-call the thread but no doubt someone does. It was only a few months ago so can't have been forgotten by all! Re the new wargs, can't help you there. It is one of my greatest hates for the line though ---> those mounted warg riders look terrible to me. I hate the look of the hunter orcs. Since when did they have time to work out at the gym? |

hello wise old elf, i would reccomand the Fenrisian Wolves because they are much more dynamic and i like the slender look of them... the only problem is that you only get five of them instead of six fell wargs. fluff wise i would chose the fell wargs, then you could use the hunter orcs as scouts ans than the wargs do not look very diferent. i hope this may help you in making a choise. |

Hmm.... looking at that picture, they seem really small, I thought they were much bigger than the new Fell Wargs which is why I considered them as I will be mounting them with Uruk-Hai Scouts. Thanks for the advice though. Is anyone on here able to put up a size comparison shot of Fenrisian Wolves and Fell Wargs, as ultimately its the scale that's my main issue for the reason I said earlier, that I will be mounting them with Uruk-Hai? |

I do like the Fenrisian wolves, but I think that the fell wargs would be better to use. The wolves are a bit stumpy looking to me. |

A couple comparison pics... http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b40 ... eab144.jpg http://i1040.photobucket.com/albums/b40 ... f83960.jpg They are a bit bigger.... I will probably end up using some in my First Age projects... |

The stumpiness should be avoided in the way that I base them. I'm planning to have them leaping over rocky outcrops so they will have a great deal of height to them, some may even appear to be standing on their hind legs. From what you've all said I think I will settle for the Fenrisian Wolves. I much prefer the look and now I've seen a good comparison with the Fell Wargs they just look so much more feral and aggressive, and perfect for carrying the bulk of Uruk Hai scouts upon their backs. Thanks everyone, your help has been greatly appreciated, and inspired my first evil army attempt in over 8 years since I spray painted a Balrog black and dry brushed it with Golden Yellow - simply awful!! Hopefully this project will turn out much better! |
