Post subject:  Basecoating "Fine"Cast?

Hey guys, I'm just about ready to basecoat my FC Uruk crossbowmen but I have a bot of a problem. I remember doing my few FC Goblins, basecoating the material was different and frankly a little difficult. Getting into the recesses seemed like more of a pain with the resin-like material and it just wasn't as smooth or easy as doing a plastic or metal mini.

Is there a certain technique that works best? Should I really be spraying FC or using heavily diluted paints?

I always spray my FC with black primer. then use slightly thinned black paint to go over any parts missed.

Finecast also always tends to be riddled with oil and grime from the mould-casting process, or at least mine always have been, I've even had to scrape dirt off with a scalpel before it was so sense. It's wise to give them a thorough but gentle wash in warm soapy water before applying any sort of paint, especially basecoats. I find that I can combine this wash with an opportunity to straighten spears and poles too, which were bent during the casting/storage process.

Not too warm though! Brush on black has worked fine for me so far, but I tend to spray prime now, haven't tried it on fc.

Indeed, washing the mini carefully with soap and water is a good idea. Just be careful, since its very brittle.
