Also please only list citadel paints from the new range. I don't use vajello or the older GW paints. |

I think the light blue is the edge highlight by GW |

If I know GW it is one of the following: Different tones of one colour or multiple different colours & tones, of which most you would not normally be able to guess with such a variety of colours. For the ones I think I would be right with: Thrandurils cloak would be a mix of chaos black, codex grey and added shadow grey/ bleached bone for highlights. They may have used some regal blue in the black/grey mix also. Hard to tell with the pics. The red i suspect is red gore or similar 50/50 with chaos black, add fiery/blazing orange to the mix for highlights. For Lego/Tauriels cloak, Dark angels green/chaos black 50/50, bleached bone for highlights (used to be the norm). Sorry for not giving up to date colours. I haven't used GW paints for a while. |

Oh my frogs, those are some of the most badass sculpts i've ever seen... VG POST EDITED: Just because you star a word out does not make it acceptable. I remind you this is a family forum and that kind of language even if it just insinuated is not acceptable. Cheers DMS |

I think a basic painting scheme may appear in a White Dwarf on Saturday. This will give you a few colours to get started off with, or maybe give a cohesive painting guide. Thee may be one in the "rumoured" sourcebook too. I hope they do so, it'll give me a basis to paint my minis (I only use Reaper paints ) |

Based on what I've glimpsed in the new White Dwarf (just poking my nose in without buying... ), I've created my own colour scheme. The magazine itself only gives a very basic run-through of the main colours used, so for example, for the Palace Guard armour, it tells you 'Base: Sycorax Bronze, Wash: Agrax Earthshade, Drybrush: Golden Griffon' (as far as I can remember). At the moment I've only got round to completing a scheme for the Mirkwood Rangers, which can also apply to Legolas and Tauriel. Some of the colours are 'old' GW paints, and I'm not sure of alternatives so sorry about that, and also, I wet-blend so when there seems to be a lot of contrast between steps, remember that this will look smoothly blended on the miniature. Dark Green Fabric Basecoat with Orkhide Shade. Layer with a mix of Orkhide Shade (50%) and Loren Forest (50%). Wash with Nuln Oil. Highlight with Loren Forest. Earthy Green Fabric Basecoat with a mix of Dryad Bark (60%) and Loren Forest (40%). Wash with Nuln Oil. Layer with a mix of Camo Green (50%) and Dryad Bark (50%). Repeat but brighten = Camo Green (70%) and Dryad Bark (30%). Highlight with Camo Green. Dark Brown Fabric Basecoat with Dryad Bark. Wash with Nuln Oil. Layer with a mix of Dryad Bark (70%) and Gorthor Brown (30%). Highlight with Gorthor Brown. Earthy Brown Fabric Basecoat with Rhinox Hide. Wash with Nuln Oil. Layer with a mix of Rhinox Hide (70%) and Gorthor Brown (30%). Layer with a mix of Rhinox Hide (50%) and Iyanden Darksun (50%). Highlight with a mix of Rhinox Hide (50%), Iyanden Darksun (40%) and Karak Stone (10%). Leather Basecoat with Rhinox Hide. Wash with Nuln Oil. Layer with a mix of Rhinox Hide (60%) and Mechrite Red (40%). Highlight with a mix of Skrag Brown (20%), Rhinox Hide (50%) and Mechrite Red (30%). Teal Fabric Basecoat with Orkhide Shade. Wash with Nuln Oil. Layer with a mix of Orkhide Shade (90%) and Thunderhawk Blue (10%). Layer with a mix of Thunderhawk Blue (40%) and Abaddon Black (60%). Highlight with a mix of Thunderhawk Blue (60%), Abaddon Black (20%) and Fortress Grey (20%). Hope this helps - I know it's extensive, but I find that easier to follow that the basic 'Base, wash, drybrush, done'. |

@Wise Old Elf, thanks very much. This release has almost made me want to paint again, and that's a very helpful post. |

I'm working on a Thranduil scheme at the moment, trying to stay away from the GW grey and make it more like the metallic green in the films - I'm not getting anywhere fast though, but I'll post something else as soon as I've discovered it! As for the Palace Guards, I'll work out something once I've finished my rangers, but again, I hate the GW scheme, so I'm planning to give mine a grey, bright gold and rich green (almost jade or emerald) scheme, using powerful colours to symbolise their palatial status over the duller, lesser ranking rangers. |
