Post subject: | Basic flesh painting - HELP with red? |
Hey, finally got started on my warriors of erebor and I think i'm going to start with the flesh. As I have never painted flesh before (besides Uruks) I was thinking of a basic technique. Perhaps basecoating in cadian fleshtone, then a coat of kislev flesh (leaving cadian fleshtone in the recesses) and finally highlighting with a mix of kislev flesh and ushabti bone. Does this sound alright? I would have liked to have done a wash but I don't think I have any suitable colours. Any advice appreciated, VG |

Hi VG nice to hear from u again For my Dwarves I start with a brown (not even a "flesh tone") I do Skraag Brown, folled by ratskin flesh, then reikland flesh-shade, then I highlight with kislev flesh or kislev + Ratskin if that's looking too bright. It keeps my Dwarves a little darker and redder than the elves Hope that helps |

I will certainly be basecoating with a brown in the future as I just basecoated the flesh in cadian fleshtone and it took about 3 or 4 watered coats to look presentable! What about if I wash this fleshtone with doombull brown and then reapply the fleshtone? Do you think that would be too muddy and brown or okay? EDIT: Just tried the doombull wash on a spare mini, looks great. Will give that a try! Thanks for your input James, VG |

I don't know about GW colours, but for human skin I generally use army painters barbarian flesh with a simple quickshade, Then again the only humans I paint, is casualties for basing I'll just share my favourite page for tutorials, you may find something of interest there http://tutofig.com/ Or in this case http://tutofig.com/?category_name=painting-faces+en The reaper forums have quite a lot of tutorials too http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.p ... /?p=476935 And they have a really helpful community too |

Usually start with a scab red and cadian fleshtone 50:50 mix, cadian fleshtone for a basic layer then mix with white for each subsequent layer. |
