Recently I have acquired 2 boxes (the old 20 man boxes) of Easterling Warriors to start my Easterling force. I have been searching for inspiration for possible alternate Easterling paint schemes beyond the film interpretation of gold and scarlet red.

If anyone has any pictures or possible ideas for alternate color palette's please let me know. In the end I probably will paint them the traditional way but I wanted to pick the brains of fellow one-ringers to see if there might be something that I find more appealing.

Thanks! :)

Not sure where my pictures of them are, but mine are in Liche Purple and Burnished Gold. a silver or bronze armour might look nice on them, but a deep, rich colour for the cloth is best.

EDIT: I also seem to remember seeing a regal blue with silver armour that looked really nice.

I've painted my whole force in red clothes and metallic armor.
Looks really good compared to the traditional gold in my opinion.
There is an article in a WD about painting them in different colors.

I can try and post a picture later. I have a few that I painted the armor black with silver trim, with red cloth. Looks pretty cool

I like the silver look! I might try a test model with silver and see what colors would match. Although bronze is another option as well. I need more pictures of other examples before I decide. Thanks so far for the input.

I think when they first came out some guys in the old GW site had displayed pics with their easterlings with many colour variations.

If you can find the links or other sites that have reposted these pics maybe??

If not I suggest google pics

There was an article in either WD or perhaps one of the source books that displayed about 6 or 8 color schemes done by GW employees. There were also painting guides and some interviews with the painters.
The article was perhaps 3 or 4 full pages and was abslutely worthwhile.
I would start with the East sorcebook and then maybe the ROTK book.

A quick email to GW would probably be your best bet to discover which book it was in.

Here is a good example that I found online of what I might try for my Easterlings. In the end I had to eliminate silver out of a possible color due to the sheer amount of silver I have with other forces (Gondor and Isengard). I wanted to add variety to my collection in terms of color. Any thoughts or suggestions for an alternate color with gold? I have also considered purple...

Thanks, Lord Elrond ;) I've since updated it by washing the gold down with Devlan Mud and the purples with whatever the purple wash is called, lol. skin got a wash of Reikland Fleshshade and I even washed the blacks with Badab Black, lol.

Started bases now - the textured snow basing, painted Graveyard Earth, washed with Devlan Mud and drybrushed with Kommando Khaki.

EDIT:

Don't remember listing the colours on the blog, but probably did - summary: Liche Purple, burnished gold drybrushed over Chaos Black, Dwarf Flesh, I think Kommando Khaki (with Badab Black on the fletching), Chaos Black and Mithril Silver.

Found it !!! White Dwarf issue 315 "Easterling Showcase".

This article shows 9 different color schemes painted by the GW gang and explains why and how each different color scheme was chosen.

Excellent color pix of all the troops. I am really partial to the ice blue desert
army.

Perhaps this article is on the web somewhere. If not you'll have to grab the issue through the second hand marketplace. Good luck.

I think that orange and yellow are underused in the LOTR palette. I also like to have groups that stand out on the table; I'm very wary of having too many models that look OK individually, but end up as grey/brown/black mush from 6 feet away.
