Hiya

Have just posted a review of my recently purchased Gondor Commanders here

This was the first set of Finecast miniatures I have bought blind from GW direct and no in store (where casting quality can be checked) as they were out of stock in every London branch. There were some problems.....

Thank you

I still haven't bought any finecast and this review doesn't really help me get over that hump.
I got metal Gondor Commanders (as you can see in my WIP) and had no problems whatsoever. So yeah, we now pay more for the same mini's with lesser quality.

Sorry for stating the obvious ;)

when i bought my set, the banner was the only decent one in the box. after spraying them all, the captain looked like he had been attacked by a 3yr old with crayola paint whereas the others where all fine. every detail was obscured. (he was cannabalised shortly after).
The KotWT has been replaced once and I now have a perfect sword although the face is a little miscast but i was so happy with the sword I took it.

I had to replace the hornblowers sword because it snapped off in the case, so damn flimsy. I replaced it with the spare one from the FC boromir blister, looks even more awesome now. (should be pics in my WIP)

Banner was the only perfect one in the box.

I have some finecast still in their blisters that I got before GW staged their latest mad price hike - I looked at them without opening the packets and they seem fine (no pun intended).

I have purchased quite a lot of Finecast recently and most have been absolutely fine with little or no "making good" required, it just proves if it's possible check in store....

This isn't another hate Finecast thread, just a review of mine out of the box :)

I'm surprised that all the London GW's had run out of Gondor commanders. I did not know we were so many lol.

A good review. The photography is great and it allows us to see the detail (or lack thereof) in the Finecast miniatures.

I'm very concerned about how much of the new range of miniatures for The Hobbit will be released in Finecast. I hate the stuff. It's too light, too weak, and every miniature I've bought has at least one side that looks like the top of a latté. Detail which presented perfectly well in metal is obscured by bad castings.

Put the price factor on top of all that, and it's just too little value for too much money.

I don't want to sound like I'm bashing FC for the fun of it. I have formed my opinion over time and several unsuccessful purchases of product where GW have not been able to supply a figure that was not flawed beyond the point of recovery.

Sadly, your review adds further evidence to support my opinion of the product. It's rubbish; stick a fork in it and call it done!

Just a quick update, I returned the poorly cast Minas Tirth Hornblower and after about a week I got a more than satisfactory replacement....
