Hello,
I seem to remember flipping through a SBG book a while back in the store, and there being a short description on how to paint elven cloaks (the silverish ones from the high elves). I Think it was in the two towers journeybook or maybee in the return of the king one. Does anybody own a copy of them and would be willing to check for me? If you could let me know how they do it i would be much obliged :-) so far my tinkering turned out a bit silly actually... Thanks!

Well, in the Two Towers journeybook there is a short guide on how to paint Sam's elven cloak, but I can't find anything about the High Elves-cloaks. To be honest I really hate the book, not because the content isn't good, because it is good, but because the book keeps falling apart... Which is terrible for the ridiculous price.

Hmmm... that doesnt happen to be a silverish one like the ones from the high elves right?

They used to have instructions for this type of cloaks on an old article. I sadly don't remember them...

No, they mix bleached bone with chaos black and highlight up to bleached bone. I'm afraid I can't find silverish elven cloaks.

On the lotr-collector website he mentiones that in the book the two towers there is a painting tutorial about elven warriors. I think that should be it. Isnt one like that in there?

I know the problem with the book falling apart. I have that with my LOME book. It went wrong only days after i had bought it. didnt really get around to returning it and then after a while it just seemed to long ago to return it. Its readable but pages kept falling out...

I have all the books so will check when I get 5 mins. Off the top of my head I think mithril silver was mixed in with the greys when highlighting.

You were right, after looking again I found this:

Is this the one you mean?

ah no. I guess those are the ones mentioned by lotr-collector but i meant different ones. i mean these: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... od1500400a
You can only see the back of the cloak partially but it silverish. its clearer on some pictures in the books.

The guide you provided is usefull tough since i just order a box of these last week and want to paint them up anytime soon, and still only have the old paints :-)

Well, I'm afraid there's no other painting article about elves in that book...

You should check out my WIP thread. I painted some elves pretty accurate to GW colours. Lemme find a link

EDIT:

Have a look at pages 1-8 I think for various photographs. :)

It's been a long time since I did mine, but I did an olive green basecoat and highlighted that by mixing in a light gray. Once I had it to the desired level of highlights, I took Mithril Silver and watered it way down into a wash and brushed it over the top, although I took care to avoid letting it pool in the recesses. I'm not at home, but I'll try to snap a picture later, so you can see what I'm talking about.

A really light one. I use vallejo, it's basically sorta:

Black -> Something -> Codex Grey -> Something -> Something -> Stonewall Gray -> White.

Incrementally.

Yup! The names are pretty similar, you can often work it out relatively easily.

:-) i found what i meant, but it is a bit different. In the 3th sourcebook there is a painting guide of Elladan (or Elrohir) where they show how they paint the cloak. Its a bit different then the ones from the elves i think. But the greenishness is what i was thinking about.
