Thanks Erunion and Scipio- those pics are exactly what I needed. The Red Box Games minis are perfect- even the dwarves, which I thought looked much more "heroic" scale. My poor poor bank balance! |

Erunion wrote: Thanks for the review, LordoftheBrownRing. That is exactly the kind of thing that helps people find what they want/need. I will probably placing an order with Wargames Factory in the very near future. These kits look like they are a great value! My pleasure I wanted to try to help people as much as possible. And @ the last post....I just cant do it. GW Mahud are just too perfect. |

Well these are also from GW, but are from the 40K space wolves range. Fenrisian Wolves. Can go quite cheap on ebay. I have some and they are a similar scale to the new Hobbit Wargs, although a little shorter in the body. And these ones have all their hair, unlike the dodgy Hobbit ones. |

My local GW manager uses them for his goblin horde and they look GREAT! |

A couple to add to the list: Perry Miniatures Sudanese Tribesmen - Mahud/Far Harad Choson Korean and samurai - Variags of Khand (personally I think the Koreans are much closer to the GW models, but I know some people use Samurai for Khand as well). Conquest Games Mostly Normans (mainly in plastic, so very affordable!), which would be good Gondorians/Arnorians/Fiefdoms, but there are also a few fantasy minis that would be good shades, wraiths, or undead, and some Robin Hood minis that would make good bandits or ruffians. Dark Sword Miniatures They have tons of fantasy figures, including a Game of Thrones line (not based on the tv show). Many are a little too "high fantasy" looking for my tastes, but some, especially some of the high elves, fit in very well. I believe they're similar in scale to the Knight Models figures. These two are already listed, but have a few more suitable minis that weren't listed: Gripping Beast I know this manufacturer is already listed, but they're also gearing up to release plastic Arabs for a Crusades range, which would probably make suitably Haradrim. They also have tons of metal figures. Ebob Rebellion - English and Scottish, so would probably be suitable as various Gondor fiefdoms, and maybe ruffians/wildmen for the hairier Scots. Dark Ages - Again Normans, so probably Gondorians or fiefdoms. |

I've used Perry Miniatures Crusader for some Rohan conversions Turned out alright Green stuffed cloak and Rohan weapons gave me these: They fit quite well and the poses are cool. Nice to get some Rohan warriors with two-handed axes Perhaps one could also use Perrys angry peasants for Laketown Militia. http://www.perry-miniatures.com/product ... ts_id=2976 |

I really appreciate this thread, thanks to you guys I have ordered from Ebob Miniatures and eagerly await the order. Can anyone recommend an alternative to GW horses as I refuse to pay £18 for a paltry 6 plastic riders, but I really need horses as I want to make more main characters mounted. Plastic or Metal. |

I can't believe how cheap they are compared to GW. Really puts into perspective how little it must really cost GW to make these things. I am sure if they priced reasonable then people would not look constantly for alternatives. |

Well, those are on sale. Even still, their other boxed sets are more in line with what GW's plastic sets used to cost when I started the hobby... Le sigh. |

Some more ideas... Perry Miniatures. Mercenary men-at-arms: https://www.perry-miniatures.com/produc ... rqurl7b445 Uses: 1. Pikemen could be used to make Dol_amroth men-at-Arms. To help I used Ebob's swan knight heads instead of the included ones. A box can make about 20, and more if you convert the musket arms to hold a brass rod/spear. (i'll post a pic later showing) 2. The crossbows and Pavisse shields could be used to convert standard corsairs into Corsair Crossbows. Heresy miniatures. 1. Spider. This fellow could make a very nice Spider Queen. Again I'll post a pic later. Linky: http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index. ... ucts_id=64 2. Stone Giant. There is no official Stone Giant model as far as I know, and I thought this model would make a good Stone Giant Even before The Hobbit movie came out. Linky: http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index. ... ucts_id=87 Gripping Beast. Dark Age Warriors. already mentioned/listed, but I use them to make Sharkey's Ruffians: |

I have recently ordered quite a few miniatures from the Perry Brothers who I believe offer the best quality and prices. There crusaders range are perfect for Rohan and Harad alternatives. Civilian Traders as Breelanders. |
