So as posted in another topic, I still haven't decided wether or not to give the spearmen a shield. However I'm just wondering if I do, where to put the shields? Anyone glued them op yet? There is only one dude that can normally hold a shield, the other would either have it on one of the hands holding the shield, or on their backs? Interested to see what others came up with!

I'd say on most of the models just like a buckler on the lower arm which suits best, if they have armoured sleeves I'd put it on their back though. :)

Yeah that's what I was thinking, it's just that to me they seem a bit unnatural if I add them to the lower arm, looking at the size of them. I was thinking about the back too, but not sure if I like that either. Maybe I should go for magnetizing so I can atleast take them off :P

Which shields are you using? If it's as big as the shields some have by default, I think it's a good fit buckler size. I don't know about magnetizing since I've never seen it :)

There's 12 of those shields in the box. I suppose it's the only way to go.

Personally i am only going to put them on the Dwarfs with hand a hand axe, the rest will go in the spares box, perhaps to be used on another set of Grim Hammers

Two handed weapon + shield? Anyhow, I wish the Grimhammers had some axes... :P

The Grimhammers DO have axes, it's just that they're really small and are probably throwing axes. I'm using them as Iron Guard until "The Hobbit" rules come into play around here xP

if the kit works, I would use spears from erebor dwarves into the grimhammer bodies along with the shields.

Problem is to see if this fit and if its not too expensive not to worth the try.

That's what I'm going to do... hope to start the conversions tonight.

I've done similar with one of the Erebor dwarves (the dude stabbing his spear one-handed into the ground). His armour looks close to a Grimhammer, and so a hand-swap later, and I have a Grimhammer captain and a more natural-looking Erebor spearman. As for the shields, while I haven't given the spearmen any yet, I'd go for on their backs (if I give them shields at all).

Looking forward to seeing pics of all this! I'm really tempted to go for some erebor after I've finished painting up my Rohan and grey company forces. Love grimhammer models, thror and thorin. Dwarves with spear support too, amazing :)

Can you give grimhammers shields??

Well, I finished 9 Warriors with Hand Weapons (will get shields later), 12 Warriors with Spears (again, will get shields post painting), and a Captain with a hand weapon.

(Sorry for the crappy iPad photos)

My goal was to use the armored bodies of the Grimhamers and the weapon options from the Warriors kit. Many of the arms don't have armored shoulders or greaves so those need to be sculpted. The kits went together reasonably well, there are of course gaps that need to be filled. It only took me about 6 hours to get them this far. There is still some putty work that needs to be finished.

Looking very nice! Think I might have to do this for my next 1-2 units.
