Hello,

This afternoon I bought some material for basing (some brown gravel and PVA). I've never actually did any decent basing. How do you guys paint them? I wanted to paint it scorched brown, then drybrush with some lighter colors. But how do you apply the scorched brown? I tried it and like 3/4th of the gravel is painted and some of it came loose and stuck on my brush...
How long do you have to wait before you can paint on the gravel? (How long does the glue need to dry?)

Cheers

I drushbrush my bases mournfang brown (new paint) and tend to leave it at that, if I'm feeling swanky I add a layer of graveyard earth. Paint the rims graveyard earth aswell.

Edit: wait for the glue to fully dry and I usually prime my models after gluing the sand on to seal it even more.

I glue on the sand. Wait a day for it to dry, then undercoat the figures. Then I go with about 25% water 75% paint and paint the sand a dark brown. Then two or three different lighter brown drybrushes. I paint my rims black.

Water down your glue to about 2 parts water 1 part glue. Slap this over the base and apply the sand then leave to dry. It will take a few hours to dry depending on the room temperature. The glue will be clear once it is dry.
Now use 3 parts water 1 part scorched brown and apply all over, or where you want it. When dry use a dry brush of lighter shades, something like snakebite leather then bleached bone.
Once dry you can add some static grass to finish off, if you wish.

Yea I had the same problem, even if the glue is dry some gravel can still come off. I solved this by applying the gravel/sand before and painting then prime the mini using spray paint!
