Yes I know they have been out a while but has anybody got one and done anything interesting with it ?

I've already got a 'plug computer' (sheevaplug) that I've had for a few years with Debian Wheezy installed on it. I'm thinking the Raspberry Pi with it's greater uptake might have more hobby ideas.

I have dabbled a bit with robotics in the past using a PIC chip controller so perhaps that might be something to investigate.

Is anybody using them at school or college - I'd be interested to know what you've been doing with it.

I have one, but as a computer moron it is my friend who has been working on the project.

Basically, he's been writing a program to set up CCTV in my shop, and broadcast it live to my phone (so i can see what's going on when I'm out!)

However, I'll be unhelpful in giving any more details than that!

A BAZ00KA deflector shield? :P

There are a lot of sites and forums for the 2 million plus little computers out there - for example:

The gang at The Register are also using it to control their second high altitude camera project - you can search (and laugh) your way through the many articles. They managed to get a paper plane to some ridiculous altitude a couple of years ago and sent stills and video back that look like they came from Nasa or an Iron Man film.

I'm dying to get a Pi myself, as I'm a Linux / Python geek. But I have yet to find a project that justifies the (small) expense and time to put to it.

I got a pi for Christmas but I have no clue what to do with it. It is just a mess of wires on my desk
