Whilst watching the Great British Hobbit Channel on you tube I clicked on a leaked scene from thee new box set, and thinking that it was not to be released until December I was frankly startled to find that it was real, and had presumably been leaked by a checky monkey in the states who got his paws on it on or after the 5th of the month. Back in blighty we still have to wait another 3 days.

I would encourage anyone tempted not to peek early and enjoy the extra scenes as a whole with the rest of the movie. I am particularly looking forward to Barry Humphries complete song!

Spoiler Alert
To tell the truth the movie can do without these scenes, that's why they were left out in the cutting room. There's nothing really substantial in it compared to like Return of the King where you have scenes with Saruman, Witchking, Mouth of Sauron.

I liked the idea of the Goblin Town song in the novel, but it wasn't really all that great in the film especially at the end when the Great Goblin gives a fist pump which is like a modern gesture.

There are great comedic scenes in Rivendell, the food fight and skinny dipping. But really there's no major scene in my opinion that was added in or cut from the theatrical.

The Special Features are good as always to let play while doing other things around at home (9 hours worth). I work on my hobby while letting it play. There's only filmaker commentary now, they've done away with the rest. No more production stills which is sad. I used those stills as a painting guide in the Lotr extensions. No features pamphlet as well in the case.

Overall it's okay but not as good as the Lotr extended editions.

No actor commentary? Shame, that was my favourite part of the Lotr extended editions. I don't really want to see more of the dwarves acting like 2 year olds in Rivendell, or hear more goblin singing, so I might be giving this one a miss then.

I am looking for ward to the song but, I would naturally expect extra or extended action sequences! I believe there is one involving lake town?

Laketown? That's the second movie. I was really hoping for the Moria battle to be extended but it wasn't. I believe it's only Goblin Town that has a few extra action scenes. Nothing noticeable in action has been added on really. Just singing and more comedic breaks. Nori is viewed a bit more (the one with the weird hair).

Is it possible to view the making of scenes on youtube?

A couple of them are up on there for sure yeah. But the entire thing I'm not sure. The full 9 hours I doubt it. Personally I only half pay attention to "the making of" of these extended editions. I always liked the Lotr ones not only for the extended scenes, but for the stills that gives close up details that helps as a paint guide. So very disappointed that it's excluded.

I picked up the Weta Hobbit Chronicles Art & Design book afterwards, always had my eye on it, but was waiting to see if there would be an extended film with special features stills. I do plan on getting some Hobbit minis years down the road, but I fear price hikes again to keep me down.
