So we have our first leaked picture of Beorn in man form. Click to: Show That's one crazy hairdo straight out of Sonic the Hedgehog but quite animalistic and appropriate i think. |

For some reason this reminds me of a mad hair-do from a few years ago.... http://blogue.us/2009/10/16/halloween-c ... na_turner/ |

I like it. It's good that they're pushing the boat out in the designs in my opinion. |

I really think it looks cool! How did you come by these or how do you know it's real? |

I'm absolutely amazed by the amount of Tolkien fans across the web who are up in arms about this design. I'll admit that it's certainly not how I pictured Beorn, but I'm glad that they've avoided the 'Hagrid look', and to be honest the design is secondary to the performance of the actor: that is what makes or breaks the character. For example, I wasn't particularly pleased about the look the film-makers had chosen for Thorin Oakenshield, but Richard Armitage's performance was so good that I was able to overlook that deficiency. Cheers, Gandalf |

Cheers, Gandalf You made a good point about Richard Armitage's performance. There was quite the ring around Saturn controversy at that time too I always thought of Hagrid as Beorn with out an axe. I also thought Goblin Town was in a limes stone cave. We will see how it goes. Lorindol wrote: I really think it looks cool! How did you come by these or how do you know it's real? I am surprised how long it took to appear in the One-Ring. I am unsure of the purpose of the leak. Perhaps a change? That is pure speculation |

It appeared online on the back of a calendar for 2014 by SD Toys. Warner Bros quickly ordered them to take it down, but not before people had a chance to save it. |

Quote: I'll admit that it's certainly not how I pictured Beorn, but I'm glad that they've avoided the 'Hagrid look', I have to say that I could not agree more. I am glad that they have gone for a distinctive look that looks like nothing else (well maybe a bit like Sonic the Hedgehog) to build a strong identifiable individual in the minds of the movie go-er. |

Somehow I pictured the gathering where gandalf saves them as happening in a huge cavern. Also, I love this look for Beron! No complaints from me. |

Is he peeing on that tree trunk? Besides that, its an interesting look, but I want to see him in full action before I properly critique him. |

I like it, it's certainly not how I've always pictured Beorn but if I'm brutally honest I think that's a good thing. The obvious way to go is a big Little John style look and it's been done so many times in artwork that it's nice to see a different approach. The dwarf company, Great Goblin, Goblin town, Radagast and many others in the first film all had controversial visual appearances and, IMO, worked great. I love that I don't know how each new character/location is knowing to be presented and it's nice seeing such refreshing new interpretations of such iconic characters. It would have been easy for PJ to have visualised the films in the same way as all the artwork from the last 75 years and I love the fact that they're being so much more creative and imaginative with their designs. |
