Post subject:  The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun

Hi all, this may have been old news, since its from juin

but I didn't see them anywhere on this forum so here it goes:

In juin 2009 a new book by JRR Tolkien (composed by Christopher) came to be: 'The legends of Sigurd and Gudrun'

it's a story that does not take place in Middle Earth, but is rather Tolkiens interpretation of the myths around those 2 characters

I consider it to be an extremely nice book though the form might scare away readers, Tolkien namely put the legend in his favoutie way, using the same metrum as did the old sagas, its in essence an epic poem further his English is archaic, much more so then in either Silmarrilion or LotR

(i know this because the Dutch version has both the English version and a try to translate)

all in all there is actually more Christopher/Tolkien material then real story but for those who have never been told the old Nordic sagas, or those who want a new point of view, and how in certain areas it affected Tolkiens Middle Earth, its very much worth buying (even most for people who don't understand ancient Nordic :-D )
(btw the very most influenced part of his work seems to be the part of what would happen after Turins dead, check the book to know  )

in my opinion, it's one of Tolkiens best

I have seen this book at a shop in town. I haven't gotten around to picking it up yet, because they only have it in the hardback. If you thought it was a pretty good read, then I may pick it up.
