Post subject:  Middle-Earth dungeon crawler?

I played my first games of Warhammer Quest this past weekend (old school and the new Silver Tower game) and it got me thinking, has anyone ever come up with variant rules for doing a LOTR/Hobbit dungeon crawler? A fellowship of adventurers working their way through the mines of Moria, goblin town or some other dungeons of Middle-Earth?

Obviously I could just use LOTR/Hobbit minis to replace the Warhammer Fantasy style ones, just curious if anyone had ever seen some SBG specific style rules.

I highly recommend battle companies to meet this need. Alternatively, you could use the rules from Other world miniatures. Their rules recommend use of their line of minis, but you could just as easily proxy in LOTR minis.

Oh, I definitely plan to do a Battle Companies campaign when it comes out, but I was thinking rules for exploring a dungeon, events and encounters, random monsters, etc.

Are you familiar with the old Middle Earth Role Playing (MERP) game by ICE?

They had many supplements and adventures with obscene levels of detail about different regions of middle earth, bestiaries, maps of ruins, fortresses, settlements, etc. They also included advice in their supplements for using them with different game systems, as D&D and such was so popular at the time. It's possible you could use the Warhammer Quest or SBG rules with one of these old supplements.

If memory serves correctly, I recall there being dungeon crawler kind of games detailed in issues 25 and 83 of Battle Games in Middle-Earth. The rooms were all modular, you explored the rooms with a small group of miniatures and when you reached a doorway you rolled to see what the next room was and contained (at least if I'm remembering it right!)

Might be worth checking those out!

you're kind of right there, it wasn't so much a dungeon crawl like heroquest as a different way of playing the battle game ; the modular sections represented the sewers under osgiliath & had to be navigated to win the scenario.
