Here's to looking towards the future. What models are you anticipating the most from The Hobbit?

I ould say men of laketown, for some funny reason, when I read the book, i pictured them exactly as GW portrays the rangers of the north, so I wonder how they will be portrayed in the film.

My second would be the new dwarves.

If GW makes the miniatures, which I'm sure they will, I'm going to straight out buy Thorin and his companions right away along with Beorn & Dain Ironfoot. I'm not even going to wait for bargains or liquidation sales for those ones. I would like to paint the dwarf company because they were very colorful in the book, hopefully they will be the same in the film. I like Beorn because of the concept of the werebear, so that's definitely going to be a two model blister. I've always been holding out on buying the current Dain Ironfoot because I knew The Hobbit was going to be made, so I would like to have the film version of him. If I knew that about Radagast being in the film, I would have skipped out on buying his current model also.

http://www.iii.co.uk/investment/detail? ... 5&from=rss
This confirms that GW has renew a contract and expand to do The Hobbit miniatures line.

Well i think I might do the exact opposite of you Sacrilege. Even though i am excited about the new models, this will be our last oppertunity to buy the beautifully sculpted models we now have, such as (in my oppinion) Radagast, Thranduil, and Dain. After the movies all these models will be discontinued in favour of the newer ones, not that i wouldnt want the newer ones :) even if you dont want them to paint them you can keep them and sell em on ebay with all the other hard to find models that are discontinued! so get em before theyre gone i say. and who knows maybe the older models will be better then the newer ones...but hopefully not!

There's so much I look forward to... but mainly the one and only... a gigantic Smaug-figure! (lt's hope for that!)

As well as the three trolls, the men of Laketown, mountain giants...

Just everything I guess... although I don't look forward to spending all my precious money... :(

What I think Kyrrial is saying that if GW bring out newer versions of the models it is highly likely the will discount the older ones. If you like the older models it may be a good idea to get them before this.

Ofcourse this is all speculation.

I'm happy with the Radagast sculpt, I just like having movie versions. But Kyrrial may be right if the model is discontinued it will go up in price in the distant future, so I'll keep mine unpainted for now.

exactly... im not saying that the newer models arnt going to be better, in fact im hoping they are better! Im just stating that this will be our last chance to pick up these models because they will most likely be replaced with the release of the movies, even if you dont want to paint them, (you can buy them to sell later on for a profit). Its a pain in backside if your trying to find the boromir CotWT on foot with bannar without getting into bidding wars on ebay, and i quite liked that Golfimbul sculpt! but maybe the Bolg model could make up for that

im just as excited as everyone else :)

For me it'll be Smaug, the armoured dwarf company, and the Iron Hills dwarves. :D Having said that, I'll only buy them if the dwarf troops are better than the plastic ones, and Smaug will have to be at the very least on a level par with Natarn's scratch-built dragon.

Who's itaril? :?

GW's made a lot of mistakes with this game stateside. The Hobbit is a last chance it feels for me for some new people to get drawn in and stick with it. Ive played this game since its inception and seen the ebb and flow of players. From GW marketing it to children the moment they walk in the door, to [word deleted] off older players to shoving the new gaming system down our throats. The guys in charge of it currently have run off all the talent that made this game great. I'll buy the minis but I have no faith in it as a stand alone game system with a lasting community...least thats how it is around here. We have a facebook group of 16 active people and only 3-4 of us show up for the meets every other weekend.

I'd like to join the facebook group but I'm probably to faraway to show up.
My group won't play at all.

I suspect the new reality of any hobby game thing is to make hay while the sun shines - make your money while there's interest and then let is sort of drift off into quasi supported obscurity until something else comes along. In such a scenario, you expect people to drift off. You just hope it happens later, rather than sooner. If you have an evergreen property, like, say Warhammer, you can just release new supplements, new editions, new whatever else when the drift becomes noticeable. For something like the Middle-earth property, each release needs to be approved and vetted, those "bumps" are harder to do.

I am wondering if, in the Post-Hobbit environment that maybe the hard core fans might create a "living" middle-earth battle game with GW's approval or benign indifference that "networks" ideas and concepts between the various computer games, post Hobbit media and whatever else. For example, the Dungeons and Dragons miniatures game uses this model, with a group of hard core fans making new rules, rules clarifications and so on. The game will never reach the dizzy heights of summer 2003, but then, what could?

Sorry I had to resurrect this thread again just to look back on it and laugh. My hopes were for it to be like the old days before Finecast. Happier times. Didn't buy Beorn off the bat yet like I wanted but will get him eventually.

I voted for: Thorin's company both regular and armoured, Beorn, Dain, Smaug.

Got Escape From Goblin Town out of a deal, but sadly I can't afford Smaug
For sure Beorn and Dain will be mine, but to get the armoured company takes some major saving that I might be missing out on them.

The first models I bought from GW and only have so far from Hobbit are Bolg (Gundabad General) and Young Dwalin. Loved the look of the orc boss, and Dwalin with a dragon slayer Mohawk, I couldn't resist.

So for those of you that have voted, did you end up getting what you've wanted yet? Still waiting on unreleased material? Or did you end up buying something totally different and unexpected from your original choices?

^I have to direct you over to Majestic Bear miniatures. UKFreddyBear has a Mountain Giant you may like. An actual Giant, not whatever it was we saw in AUJ.
