This is probably a really stupid question... but are the sons of Eorl ACTUALLY supposed to be Eorl the young's sons? Or are they just an honorary title? Again, probably a stupid question any feedback appreciated |

It's just an honorary title otherwise all son's of Eorl armies with 20 odd models in could be difficult to explain ......I believe they're ment to be the finest warriors in Rohan and guard the Meduseld or something similar. Billy |

Honorary title, although I suppose the original ones might have been his sons. |

Answer by someone other than Thermo. How long until we start worrying about him? |

Do you think they're meant to be used only in the "time of Eorl", or would there be some guarding Theoden too? |

They seem to be a separate organisation from the Royal Guard; but I think they could easily be used present-time. That said, they do synchronise well with Eorl due to their horse speeds. |

They are my sons… all of them! (they're an elite cadre of warriors, named in honour of the founder of modern Rohan, rather than his actual sons. There is nothing to suggest they exist at a different time in GW's fluff about them.) |

It's an old northern European tribal thing. "We are the sons of [insert some old warlord here]." It's why Scottish and Irish "clan" names mean the "son of Donald" or the "grandson of Conail." You're literally either of no relation, or vaguely related, but you identify with the heroic ancestor, his dynasty and whatever identity that gives you. So, in my head, the "sons of Eorl" are just plain old Riders of Rohan who people point at and say: oh, those guys are amazing, they are truly "sons of Eorl." |

Eorl was a ladies man. He had kids with between 30-70 Maidens. Each had 3-7 kids. Then each of those kids had 2-8 kids and then generations later, you have thousands of 20-something pt models and they came to save helms deep and Minis Tirith, and became the favorite model of some British guy named James creating a Hobbit channel. |

There is a precedent: Charlemagne and Alfred the Great both had lots of, uh, friends and lots of children with said friends. Due to a statistical fluke and the sheer number of friends Charlemagne had, most everyone born in France or Germany nowadays has a little bit of Charlemagne's DNA in them |
