So the purpose of this post is to gauge the experience and usefulness of hunter orc's both on foot and mounted and of course using their /5+ bow fire at strength 2 at 18 " So if your Hunter Orcs with bows move less than 3inches they still need a 6! to hit , is there any in taking these Hunter Orc's on foot with bows or not? I found a sneaky tactic someone used in a game , they charge in with the cavalry warband do as much damage as possible , retreat , dismount and then go in with fell warg's and hunter orc's on foot on the enemy models so that they would have 3 attacks regardless if they charged as a mounted unit ... is this legal? To me it seems they are somewhat elite troops but are sort of glass cannons in effect. They need to be used to face of the enemies weakest warband not their strongest , i played one warband versus 12 iron Guard and they got slaughtered. Wondering what your thought's are on them and if you have fielded them and your experience with them in play. |

Yes that's perfectly legal but the wrag needs a courage test to stay. |

The bows are simply not worth having slowing down orcs that are close combat specialists who really need to be in combat as soon as possible. The only exception is Narzug who I would generally advance towards the enemy and only shoot if a target present itself, or is beyond him in close combat where he is most useful. |

I have a theory... evil without bows need 10inch move, high defence or a drum... |

The risk of the wolf blowing its Courage Test and running away is usually too high for using this as a standard tactic (I'm sorry if there's some special rule I'm not aware of that helps Hunter Orc wargs in this respect). With my standard Warg Rider groups I'll do this sometimes when the chance of more models on the ground is greater than the risk. If you have a mounted Warg Rider there it is one model. If you dismount and the warg runs it's still one model. If you dismount and he stays you now have two. So your count is never any worse (and could be better) but your capability is greatly diminished. |
