Hello everyone, I've been thinking about the finecast great Eagles / Gwaihir that are being released in a few weeks' time. I've bought this month's White Dwarf and checked out GW's website and I've come to the conclusion that either of the two great Eagles could easily pass as Gwaihir - and vice versa? I mean, it's not like the Gwaihir sculpt has any distinguishing features that set him apart from the other Eagles... And I personally think the poses of the new Eagles are much more dynamic and exciting than Gwaihir's? EDIT: Or is Gwaihir just way bigger than the two 'normal' Great Eagles - WD mentions he has a wingspan of 8 inches which is pretty crazy anyway! What puzzles me is that GW are charging £25 for what is essentially one Eagle, whereas you can snag two much more interesting poses for just £5 more and simply declare one of those Eagles to be Gwaihir? Has anyone had similar thoughts? |

If he's significantly larger that would explain the price difference, but I'm not much of a fan of the pose and proportions compared to the other two. |

Gwaihir is Finecast while the Eagles are plastic. There's you price difference. |

Since I never join official tournaments, I will buy the 2 great eagles and just proxy one for gwahir. they do look great. |

Thinking the same, I'm definetly going to get the two pack first and see how I like them. Maybe track down the old metal Gwahier instead |

And alternative eagle: http://www.ebobminiatures.com/products/fantasy.htm#1 (Scroll down a bit) There are others and some toy eagles (play animals for small children) that are pretty realistic though they would need repainting. |

The official line from GW regarding proxies (for official tournaments) is that if there is a current model available, you must make every effort to use that model or convert one to look as near as possible to that model. |

I noticed scratch built models are acceptable as well at ToS events, found that odd |

I measured my eagles (gamezone) which I love, they have about a 6 inch wingspan, so the Gwaihir one is much larger (I think 8 inches?) I don't know if the other two eagles are that big or not. |
