is it me or is the new gandalf miniture a midget? he looks only half a head taller than the new dwarves, and although thorin was meant to be quite big for a dwarf, they look just a little bit to much like men for me.

Not all of the dwarves are hugely tall. Bombur looks to be about the height of a hobbit and Kili looks to be near enough the height of an average man (not a 6'2" Mithrandir, which he is almost as tall as) - as a result, depends on who he's stood next to.

But Kili seems far too tall for a dwarf - more like a slightly short man, but not very short.

I've reduced the minis to the same base size. Granted, its not 100% accurate due to slightly different angles and such, but the difference shouldnt be that big.

The dwarves have different sizes, from almost a human to almost a hobbit.

WOW! What effort and I think it shows out that the scale isn't as terrible as everyone was thinking. Nicely done1

Thanks a lot for taking the time and effort to create that picture Mac. The main concern I've had whilst looking at these minis are how they compare to the current scale, and this has really helped put things back into perspective.

Though there is quite a drastic variation in height for some characters, that isn't necessarily such a terrible thing. As with the rest of this release I shall wait until I have the minis in hand to form my final judgement :)

Just for the record, Aragorn and Gandalf were very tall - supposedly closer to 7 feet. But there are not many actors of that size available so they were just kept at normal human size for the movies. Christopher Lee as Saruman had the height and bewitching deep voice that I always imagined for the role.
Thanks for the scaling Mac - a very handy advance reference.

The only thing i find off with the new dwarfs is they seem, well less round than their LotR counterparts. The same with the new Bilbo compared to Frodo, there the still the same height just the older Frodo looks bulkier

Aragorn was supposed to be 6'6" tall, but as said not many actors fit that height. Boromir and Gandalf were supposed to be about 6'3" each (my height, incidentally :D ) but again, not many tall actors. The ironic thing is that John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) was the tallest actor! Christopher Lee, however, is by far the ONLY person who could ever pull off Saruman, he fits in every way imaginable.

And is the only member of the cast to have met Mr. Tolkien. Which is why it bothereed me so much that they didn't listen to him about the importance of showing saruman's death in the cinema release...

He's also the only one who's ever actually killed a man (in WWII as special forces).
