I'm in. I have no idea what my backlog is but its far too big. I would imagine I have about 10% of my collection painted.

I have painted 1 miniature this month so far. Have acquired around 60-70.....

I'm not holding out much hope for this month but will see what happens.

How are we going to handle cavalry, terrain pieces and monsters?
I think it would be unfair for someone who has got a few big monsters to paint and having them only count as 1 model while a regualr infantry model of probably less than a quarter of their size also counts as 1 model painted?

I suggest the following, both for buying and for painting:

2 for cavalry and small terrain pieces(mount and rider are essentially two seperate parts...)

3 for bigger terrain pieces and medium-sized monsters

4 for the biggest of all terrain pieces and monsters

Anyone of the same opinion?

Yes, I think that sounds fair.

Ouch. I just did my figures for this month so far. I bought a rather large collection for a pretty reasonable price. In total then I've bought 102.

And have painted 87.

I'm in the middle of painting Bill, Bert and Tom, and have almost finished some Bolt Action stuff, including 2 jeeps and a tank, and 15 infantry. Then, 12 Uruk berserkers and some Isengard characters.

Not sure I'm going to make it… even if I don't buy anything else this month (which is unlikely!).

Ok i just counted up my models and I'm sitting at roughly one third painted.

So far this month I have purchased 2 figures and just finished painting one.

I better get cracking!!

Must resist buying more...

And I have painted up 13 WOMT, 6 KOMT, 4 Berserkers, Bombur and a Nasgul on Fellbeast, 25 in total.
Yes I'me on a roll :-D

@Thorin -- This is a good idea, but I would tweak it in the following way.

1 point -- Standard Infantry
2 points -- Cavalry models
3 points -- Small Monsters (Cave Trolls, Goblin King, Shade, etc.)
6 points -- Medium Monsters (Mordor Trolls, Gulavhar, Ents, Great Eagles, Khandish Chariots, etc.)
12 points -- Large Monsters (Fell Beasts, Beast of Gorgoroth, Dragons, Drakes, Mumakil, etc.)

My basis for this is the time that it takes to paint a model of that size, and using a 12-man warband as the basis of the calculations. Does this seem fair to you guys?

As for terrain, I don't really consider that part of my "backlog," as I see them as special side projects that can take weeks or even months to complete!

Now that's awesome! It's a great improvement over my original suggestion and I would be very happy if this was generally well received ;)

Well good news on the hobby front. I rolled my ankle playing hockey tonight so am off my feet for a few days which means I should get some serious painting done. I've rolled my ankle plenty of times in the past playing hockey but this one is by far the worst. I can't walk at all :(

I have set myself up in the lounge with all my primed uruk-hai an am watching the hobbit with an ample supply of chocolate and pop corn and coke  I'm trying not to be too much of a burden on the wife but i've got her fetching her all my paints and changing the water :D

Ouch, John! I'm praying that you'll recover quickly. At least you can get some painting done, in the meantime.

@LordElrond -- Welcome aboard!

I've got a question:
I'm painting Warg riders, does that count as two models (Warg& rider)
Thanks.

Yes, you may count a cavalry model as two, for this challenge. I will edit the first post to reflect this.

I like this one too, gives me more incentive to get into my Riders of Rohan!

We'll I dont have much disposable cash at the moment so I don't know if ill be buying much this year. But this sounds like a good idea, and those minis that I've had for couple years look pretty sad to me. Not to mention the ones I've had since I was a kid and are 8 years old now....

I'm in!

So far; 8 painted, 0 bought for January
