I know this thread is about models, but in terms of gameplay, if Smaug is going to be better than the current dragon, Bard is going to have to have one hell of a profile...

Not really. Just a really got shot with the bow. He might have a 2+ shoot value, but all his other stats shouldn't be all that mindblowing.

I'm expecting something along the lines of:

F 5/2+, S 4, D 5 or 6, A 2, W 2, C 6

M 3
W 2
F 2

Alot of people are talking about a 'black arrow' rule and/or giving him expert shot, in both cases he is arguably as good as legolas and will likely cost less points aswell. I'm really excited to see the profiles for him and Smaug!

And so he should be, or even better! Legolas, according to Tolkien himself, achieved least of all members of the Fellowship. He killed (or maybe only wounded?) the fell beast on Anduin, while doing nothing else overly impressive, neither individually nor strategically. What is that compared to Bard, who slew the greatest dragon left in the world that could only be wounded by hitting him in exactly the right (tiny) spot, and then led the Men of Laketown in the BoFA? Bard better be at least equal with Legolas!

After seeing the film again, a model would probably be passable at Mumakil size. It's the stone giants I'm worried about. A true scale mini would be about 6ft tall.

If you type 'Smaug' into the GW website it comes up with the dragon model they have already released

That reminds me, someone is trying to sell the metal version of the LotR dragon (RRP £40) for £70 claiming it to be Smaug on Amazon.

That's only because 'Smaug' is included in the description, but the thought of them and evilbayers trying to pass that one off as the great Smaug is amusing to say the least :P
