My original plan was to pick up two boxes of Rivendell Knights and Elrond but after seeing the prices I'm just going to buy one box and Elrond. I'll save the second box for when they release Lindir and I think that will be the end of my purchases for the Hobbit until they release the new Mirkwood Elves.

I'll be getting the Goblin King. I seem to be in the minority here but I absolutely love that figure and think it's vastly better than the one in the box set. It's also not that unreasonably priced when compared to similar size/function figures (same price as an Isengard Troll) which is especially surprising as it's Finecast. I'll still get it from GDG though.

I'd love the Knights and Grim Hammers, they're gorgeous models but I've really got no need for them, I have no dwarf/elf armies and somewhat inexplicably they don't feature in any of the rulebook scenarios.

I feel quite lucky in that the models that have taken my eye from the Hobbit range seem to be the slightly more reasonably priced ones (eagles, trolls, starter box). I'm quite happy using my old warg riders and Mordor orcs/feral uruks for Hunter orcs so the 'warrior price creep' hasn't affected me. The only concessions to the other Finecast heroes I'll make are Bolg (gorgeous figure) and Azog when he's released as I've got a feeling GW are going to really pull it out of the bag with that figure. The Finecast hero prices are just insane though, the exponential price rise of a foot and mounted hero from £15 (metal) to £20 (FC) to £25 (FC Hobbit) is a step too far.

I'm still trying to clear my Isengard/Moria backlog though so won't be starting painting Hobbit stuff until August I reckon, I might well buy up everything I want before that though in case there's, God help us all, another June price rise.

Radagast, Grimhammers and Yazneg for me! I'll be getting the Elves later on.

At the moment, I am focusing on the scenarios in the Rulebook and the Dwarves because, well, they look freaking cool!

Unboxings will be on my youtube as soon as I get them. :)

Sadly nothing. Priced beyond hobby interest.

I would really like Grim Hammers, but are they really worth the cost?

In an interesting turn of events, the Grimhammers are a new model that is both over priced but NOT over powered. Stat wise older profiles are more effective. But they are nice models and I see no reason you couldn't get them (if you can afford them) but then play them as something else.

Let's assume that they cost 20 pounds a box. By buying 2 boxes you would have given GW 40 pounds. But now they will only get 30. Thus GW foregoes 10 pounds. I seriously cannot understand their reasoning.

But we can always purchase items from independent retailers which in the majority of the cases, offer discounts from RRP.

I say Yazneg, and only him.

Reasons against the others:

Rivindell knights - way too expensive for something I would only get because it looks nice.

Grimhammers - price = the stats are too bad. I hate dwarves too.

Great Goblin - I already got him in the EFGT set.

Radagast - I already got him in the EFGT set.

Elrond - Just why, there are better value Elronds elewhere.

Ordered myself
1 x Elrond
3 x Knights

I will get Yazneg next but I hope he gets rules in WD next month

Elrond ... the foot model is alright but the mounted one is good (if you sort that camp wrist out)

Knights are great. Rules are great, I can see a big use for these babies in the Hobbit universe.

I like hte Radagast model but I want a sleigh

I do like the new Radagast better than the EfGT version.

Well, if you play with the new weapon rules, I can see them being rather useful, particularily with the 2handed hammers. If you don't, then don't bother, you're pretty much paying 1 point for a 2handed weapon and 2 points for throwing weapons and you get a half way decent extra rule as a bonus. They would make great alternative Khazads for quite a bit less money.

Why can we only tick two boxes? :)

I have already ordered two boxes of each of the plastic box sets and will pick up all the Finecast as and when I can.... I will eventually buy them all of course... :)

That's my interest in them. But interestingly right now we have a couple local players getting out of the hobby so for the price of one "half size" (compared to a couple years ago) box I'm looking to pick up 30+ models. :P @ GW

I have used the last of my Christmas money to buy Elrond and the Rivendell Knights. If I hadn't got that Christmas dosh, I wouldn't have bothered, as it's all very overpriced and I do still need another pack of Galadhrim Court models to complete my basic Elf infantry force at 16 bloomin' quid for 4 Finecast models...sigh...

Am just hoping I'll be able to resist in the future when the inevitable forces of Mirkwood emerge after the next movie/the one after... Goodness only knows what the models will cost by then!!! :(

Guitarheroandy I checked your blog and your painting is amazing. I much prefer the silver, rather than the golden armour on the Elves.

When you recommend that the wash should dry for 24 hours, do you mean the GW washes? I usually leave them to dry for 30mins, I cannot detect any gloss after 30mins.

See 'Hunter Orc Captain'. His 'lance' is a sword/scimitar.
