I've seen a few of these on this website, but not much. Does anyone have extensive experience with Mithril Minis? How do they size up to GW LOTR minis? I know their website lists them as 32mm, but I also know that miniature sizes are anything but consistent.

I have no experience with Mithril Minis.
What I have seen, and own are, Southrons by Harlequin.

They make great proxies for many factions.
These specific units scale very well with LOTR.
-spearmen I use as Serpent Guards.
-WOTR as my Host of Karna (bowmen).
-My buddy used them as Laketown guards in his games.
-I even used them as Guardians of the Fountain Court.

Annnnd..., I have a bunch for trade! (shameless plug for my trade post)

I like the proxy.
Great chance to see how a unit works before purchase.
As long as something stands apart from the rest, I am all good!

I am a big fan.

They, by and large, work well.

Mithril miniatures are 32mm, and have kept that scale mostly constant since their founding, in 1988. They work well beside GW metals (and later finecasts, I suppose!), but they do tower over the early generations of plastics. So they'll look ok beside the Grimhammers and the Easterlings, but less so beside the Numenoreans and High Elves.

Mithril brings a lot of thematic variety to a LOTR collection. GW will sell you armies, but Mithril will sell you characters. Need some civilians in the background for a game set in Bree? Mithril has a bunch of characters for you. The Vignette range is a great place to find characters with less-military poses for backgrounds or for statues or whatever.

I do warn you, the range available on the website is nice and all, but you'll soon find yourself hunting back copies of older figures, once you're hooked.

The ones NLA do come up on ebay but some are very expensive. I am a big fan myself and have been collecting them since the late 1980's. They are different to paint than GW figures but for me they are just as good but different.

Ha The mithil minis are very characterfull mini's and a whole bit cheaper. I only own thranduil and some orc archers but I think the fit very well.

I have a few MM figures, they are nice, i do find a little larger. I have tried to shy away from looking to much at them so i don't get hooked, its better that way financially i find. You can get some bargain priced "common" MM figures on ebay which are brilliant.

In the 80's I was buying wargame figures. I did not pay much attention to Mithril miniatures. As my collection grew to the size that I did not need warriors I began to regret not collecting them. It has taken quite a few years to catch up.
