I'm starting a little project to make a campaign database and link the database to a GIS map with an overlay.

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of all the places in middle earth?

I'm hoping a list or table is around. Just to make the job easier.

Any simple help or resource appreciated.

There's a village called Bree in Wexford, Ireland.

When I ran a LOTRSBG campaign using mighty empires with specially converted tiles, we used an approximation of middle earth with names inspired by the classic parody "Bored of the Rings"! It added a certain ironic Vogue to the whole occasion!

Thanks Dorthonian, 8) the ARDA site is very useful. I have seen ARDA before but not in that form or at that address. And it was years ago.

I'm sure a quik cut n paste of the names will be useful too.

And the humor is appreciated from Bilbo and Gene too :D

My little project actually sprang out of learning to use MA access.. and looking to create Battle companies rosters and move them about on a GIS map nodally. Even making NPC companies with Ghostly encounters and warg packs.. But can't move unless you know where the main places are.

Thanks again.

Sounds fun, its always good to tinker with the game a bit. I have found campaigns entertaining, the cumulative objective adds a flowing narrative and overall objective to a series of games. I have got quite a lot out of mighty empires so far.

Yes but the trick for me is to not make it into a RPG system.
The things lacking in the Battle companies system are logistics assets... being wagons, carts, boats, ships. Wagon trains, hangers ons. healers (where is a dunedain with healing hands when you need one?).

Also you don't see many NPC oppositions in BC. I would like to see some haunted places and rouges and road bandits. And lest not forget ther fouler things thank orcs in the deep placed of Arda.

I'm considering flying BC's too.. why can't we have a band of eagles. maybe only one or two to start with.

And a good way to deal with massive disparity in points too.

m also looking to see a battle resolution system too.

My basis of inspiration is PBM europa by Mr Scott... I think it has the way to meld to a good PHP system on a web page or server.

Battle comps is all about raiding parties, who are unlikely to need logistical support as they are living off the land. You could always work it into the game - if in one scenario they fail to take a food source objective, they have reduced courage the next, or if they aren't getting paid reduced Standfast penalties for their heroes.

I do like the idea of adding espionage and the odd wandering monster. In the past we had an inhabited lake with a bridge in a bottle neck in the battlefield, and whoever got priority got to control the watchers tentacles!
