Still getting all the finer details together for the beginning of the campaign this weekend.

This will be quite a crucial issue. The Witch King can potentially break Gandalf's staff.

I'm not sure where he would get another one from if it broke, but then again Saruman stole his staff in Orthanc but he had one when they went to Moria.
Should he be able to get one in Rivendell (or any other places) automatically?

I imagine he would get a new one automatically when he becomes the White, but I'm pretty sure when the Witch King breaks his staff at Minas Tirith in the 3rd film (might be extended version that bit) he doesn't have a replacement at the Black Gate.

What do you guys think?
Hope I'm not asking too many of these questions. You guys are a great source of knowledge, and it also brings up an interesting point for debate.

Thanks!

How about you just try to recover it like a Might point? 4+ he gets it back, otherwise he has to wait until he encounters another member of the White Council.

It's pretty crippling for him not to have it from a game balance point of view. At most I'd say he can regain it after one session without.

The way I see it, Gandalf should be able to repair his staff. If he can't, then it could effectively put him out of the action very early on, as early as Weathertop (or whenever he first fights the Witch-King). If you decide he can't repair it himself, maybe have ones set at different locations in the campaign (Rivendell, Lothlorien, after the Last March of the Ents he could claim Saruman's staff as his own, whenever he becomes the White).

I wouldn't really be a fan of him being able to regain it like a might point, as if he could repair it himself, because in the films, when Gandalf's staff, and indeed when Saruman's staff was broken, it was completely blasted into smithereens. So, it looked pretty unrepairable (although maybe with the magic of duct tape..... )

I personally prefer the method of him being able to gain a new one in the magical places of the elves, such as Rivendell or Lothlorien :)

CaptainQuark, I think I agree with you. I'll need to see what my friend says tomorrow when I see him, but this sounds like the best way. Repercussions, but not for the rest of the game. Sounds fair to me!

I dont think it should remain broken. In other campaign rules I've seen it suggested that heroes whose weapons break during a battle cobble together repairs after the battle. For the pro purposes ofa campaign either assume he fixes it or somehow creates a new one
