If I played the Fellowship of the Ring scenarios with the Hobbit rules, will they still be balanced?
Now I plan on playing a campaign, so I don't mind if they are more balanced towards the good side, since they're playing the long game. I'm still not that familiar with the Hobbit rules though. Any thoughts?

I think scenarios like the bridge of khazad dum need to be re-balanced, heroic strike means that the fellowship could actually kill the balrog out right, that said the balrog could also just hurl gandalf down the chasm and be on his merry way or just barge past the bridge

I'm presuming you mean the scenarios from the journey book?

It depends, the new rules have both helped and hindered all hero lists like the Fellowship. Gandalf will now have to waste a Might point to keep Blinding Light in play and Heroic Strike could easily deal with the Balrog and Cave Troll (as if that wasn't easy enough) now. However, as Grungehog says the new monster rules make them more effective so perhaps some balance is retained. Heroic March will greatly benefit the heroes too, in the Lothlorien scenario a few Heroic march's from Aragorn's free Might point should see the Fellowship comfortably to safety with no hope of the goblins catching them. Ultimately they're fun scenarios that needed a bit of tweaking before the new rules and will still need a bit of tweaking now.

The Balin's Tomb one for example is incredibly hard for the evil side to win. However, if you make it 11 turns instead of 10 and say that Gandalf can't use his staff's free Will point every turn (too busy fighting, it's exhausted etc.) then it's a much fairer fight as he has to consider exactly when and where to use his 6 Will.

Lothlorien, Aragorn's Stand and Balin's Tomb are well worth tinkering with though as they're really good fun, dynamic scenarios.

Thanks guys. Yes I mean't the Fellowship of the Ring journey books. From what you've said it looks likle it benefits more the good side than the evil, but I'm OK with that since I want good to have a little bit of bias to make the story more playable.

Add these special rules to the khazad dum bridge scenario

This evil is beyond any of you: no member of the fellowship other than gandalf may charge the balrog

A great power within: Gandalf being a match For the balrog, the Balrog cannot ellect to barge or hurl Gandalf in this scenario, but may rend as normal

Exhausted: The fellowship have been utterly exhausted by their journey in the dark, as such they may only make one heroic march in the whole game.
The denizens of Moria however are well rested and do not have such toil, as such do not have a limit to their heroic actions

Any thoughts on how to balance the "Battle in Balin's Tomb" Scenario from the old MoM Set?

You are very welcome, I'm going to look through the whole lotr campaign and try and re-balance a lot of the scenarios.
That said If there are any scenarios where you think there might be balance issues just post up and I will see what I can do 8)
