Post subject:  The day that Dol Guldur fall

During the last days of War of the Ring, the Dol Guldur evil forces launched an assault against the elven kingdoms of Lothlórien and Mirkwood. In March of 3019 T.A. Dol Guldur forces attacked three times (March 11, 15 and 22) Lothlórien, the realm of Celeborn and Galadriel. All these attacks were repelled by the elven forces. Furthermore, on March 15 a night assault was launched against Mirkwood, King Thranduil's realm. This one was also repelled and is known as "The Battle under the Trees".
When Dark Lord forces were defeated, on March 25, joint forces of Celeborn and Thranduil, marched on Dol Guldur and destroyed its defence evil forces. After the battle, Lady Galadriel destroyed the fortress to the ground. Since then, Mirkwood forest is free from the shadow of the haunted tower and it is renamed to Eryn Lasgalen (“Greenwood”).
The "Battle under the Trees" is the first battle we played this year. Below you can see the participants.

As an Evil player, the second picture scares me.

Agreed. I don't think I've ever beaten an army all of high elves. As soon as I see my opponent scoring them into his army, my heart sinks.

Dol Guldur is a cool battle. Nice to see the Pegasus 'Castle ruins' in action - they're on my Wish List. The smaller spiders are scary, especially for an arachnophobe like me! The write-up was good, and I look forward to reading the re-match once the Knight of Umbar has learned to count!

My own version of the game is depicted here:

Typhoon2, you have a very-very nice "king size" table there!!! Looks luxurious with all these ruins, trees and everything on it!

Actually this is a small table - I prefer to use a 12 feet (4m) long one, but my latest house is too small.

I should point out that my game was not the War of the Ring battle, as you fought. Rather it was the White Coucil versus the Necromancer fifty years before your battle. Same place - a ruined fortress on a bare hill, surrounded by trees - but with Sauron himself in residence. I have been wargaming for 30 years and collected a lot of terrain, so it's nice to set it out. After all, we use miniatures because they look nice so having a nice table is appropriate (and cheaper than collecting GW miniatures!).

It's great that some people still game 'historical' scenarios, rather than endless tournament games, so hopefully our photos will inspire more scenario-writers and players.
